Boeing used to be the unrivaled commercial aircraft manufacturer with the most reliable, advanced, and economical planes. Airbus back in the 80s and 90s could not even begin to compare to what Boeing was. 737s and 747s dominated the short and long haul markets, respectively, around the world. Airbus' first successful aircraft was the A320, which did not become immensely popular until after 2000. Boeing still dominated the widebody market with 747s 767s and 777s in the 2000s, but Airbus definitely took away a lot of potential 737 customers. Then the A330 came. Although it initially lacked the efficiency and range for some routes, Airbus continued to make improvements, and it is now performing much better in both aspects. Boeing's handling of the 787 program post-MD merger was definitely far from ideal, and they indirectly lost a lot of orders to A330ceo, A330neo, and A350. So now, Airbus has reduced the gap in the widebody market. Looking into future products, the Airbus A320neo and A321LRneo meet the market needs for fuel efficient, narrow body aircraft. Boeing was late in innovating in the narrow body market, and the 737MAX was a rushed response to the neo family. With the 757 line out of production, Boeing has no answer to the A321neoLR. Boeing's decision to cut R&D costs have cost them a good deal of sales in the long term. In orders, Airbus has led Boeing 8 out of the last 10 years. In the future, it looks like Airbus will lead in narrowbodies, while Boeing still commands a slight lead in widebodies.
Basically, a lot of people are salty that Boeing no longer dominates commercial planes like they did 15 or more years ago. Many people can't accept that reality, so they turn to the internet and start trashing Airbus.

It's because Americans are sore losers
