UA or NZ to New Zealand in C?

Sat Jan 07, 2017 4:50 pm

I am booking a trip to New Zealand and prefer to stay on Star Alliance which leaves me with UA Polaris or NZ business premier. I have flown UA business numerous times (although never Polaris) and never flown NZ. Any advice if NZ is better than UA to New Zealand in business would be greatly appreciated.

As an aside there are two of us traveling so the UA 2-2-2 config on the 787 is not a big issue.

I am aware of the schedule change but this will be before UA removes the non-stop route.

I am not a UA hater in any regard, but without question the choice would be NZ. *A accrual and superb service and comfort.
A great opportunity to try NZ as you noted you've flown UA numerous times.
watch what you want. you may get it.

Depending on the time, you might have not that much choice. UA service goes seasonal. From another thread:

Did not last long. The new SFO-AKL service launched July 2016 will be going seasonal for now.

Per advisory, route will not operate between April 15 - October 31.

Flights have been zero'd out.

Original plan was run daily 787-8 during the S17 per below sked.
UA917 SFO-AKL 2245-0655 788
UA916 AKL-SFO 1320-0640 788

I'd say the market simply had too much capacity with AA having also commenced LAX-AKL.

Air New Zealand has commendable service. It is a great product. The seats are good if solo but not conducive for conversations.

One gripe about UA is the early departure from AKL. A 3pm departure is a bit early for an overnight red eye. You won't be tired enough to go to sleep after the dinner service and a 630am SFO arrival is early.
