The 8 most highly regarded airlines in the world

Sat Feb 25, 2017 9:24 am

Link/Source: http://www.businessinsider.com/fortune- ... holdings-1

"While pricing and safety are two important measures to consider when choosing an airline, there are far more factors that contribute to a customer — or an employee's — opinion of a company."

3 US based airlines made the list: Southwest # 7, United # 6, and Delta # 1
only 2 European Airlines made the list: Lufthansa group @ # 5, Air France/KLM # 2
#s 8, 4 and 3 went to Asian Airlines ANA, Cathay Pacific & Singapore Airlines

Air France ranks #1 when it comes to 'social responsibility', guess that means having unions effectively run the company with no regard to competitivity makes it 'highly regarded' according to Fortune.

With all the recent cuts, BOB on short haul and a old J product I am not surprised they did not make the list.

I always read these lists as "8 Airlines who paid us the most"

The article states that executives, directors and analysts were asked. Seems like a rather small sample group. I think that the list would look very different if they had asked the "average Joe". I'm not surprised that British Airways did not appear on this list. I believe that most people would agree they were once a premier airline.

Well as shocking as it seems, every now and then AF does things right...

For the 11th year running, the Group is recognized by two Dow Jones Sustainability Index Indexes (DJSI Word and DJSI Europe) and has been ranked leader in the Airlines industry by RobecoSAM.
Moreover, for the 7th year, Air France-KLM is ranked leader of the broader Transportation category, covering air, sea and road transport as well as airport activities.

With fluff lists like these, might as well chuck Pan Am into the mix

This list is, of course, very US centric given the US readership of Fortune. With all due respect to Southwest or Air France I feel that the answers would be different if an Asian or even European sample was surveyed.

I agree that these articles are usually pretty subjective and myopic, but ANA is listed at #8, Singapore Airlines at #4, and Cathay Pacific at #3, not to mention KLM/Air France and Lufthansa being on the list as well. 5 out of 8 slots seems pretty fair when it comes to the inclusion of other countries' airlines.

I have the highest regard for Lufthansa and Japan Airlines for the way they maintain their equipment.

You will not see dirty landing gears on these planes.. I don't know if they give them a hose down every time they get back to FRA/NRT but they are invariably clean when they I see them.

They maintain their ULD's very well. Damaged pallet nets and containers are 'never' sent out from FRA.

JL containers have (or used to) an aluminium sticker where they record inspections. Never seen this on other airlines cans.

On both these airlines, the loading system works perfectly. On other airlines it was common to find missing locks, unserviceable PDUs etc but not on these airlines.

It is not that these stuff don't break.. the system to ensure full serviceability is very robust. In LH if we find something not right we send a message to FRA after the flight has departed and it gets fixed. No drama.

These are my personnel observations having spent a lot of time on the ramp and warehouse.

Notice that all the criteria were related to the carriers from a business perspective, not a traveler perspective. The survey has nothing to do with overall experience, which involves many factors and situations.
