Following a similiar trend among a range of other Gulf carriers, Etihad Airways has chosen to introduce the option of paying for lounge access, for passengers flying coach.
Well, I'm no Rockefeller and I rarely fly business. Long layovers can be a pain at times, and being granted the opportunity of exchanging currency for access to a neat lounge, stocked with food, beverages and comfortable seating - is certainly tempting. Then again, I could imagine passengers on business class would feel a devaluation of the lounge's value. Worst scenario: being turned away with a valid business class ticket, due to overcrowding!

They've always had pay-for lounges. That's what Plaza Premium is for. But it's gone a bit further and now both Emirates and Etihad are proactively selling lounge access. Overall, it's a devaluation of airline loyalty as the lounges will be further crowded and lounge access is no longer an exclusive benefit for frequent fliers.

The thing is, with everyman and his dog entering the lounge with a paid pass, it might actually be better to be outside of it. Isn't the whole point of a lounge to get away from the crowds?
