BA ATH-LHR 767 service

Mon Jul 03, 2017 11:35 am

I was wondering if anyone can give some idea what kind of service does BA does on their ATH-LHR flights in economy, specifically the 767 flights...most info I found online is just regarding ClubWorld.
I've just booked a flight for November, and specifically the 767 one as I've never done 767 before (yes it does happen). It's a reasonably long flight for intra-Europe, is there any inflight entertainment, is a hot meal service provided or is it also BOB...read a lot of negativity towards BA European services lately.
Will I be almost guaranteed to be on the 767, or is this a flight prone be changed regularly?

Food - M&S BoB
IFE - Depends on the which layout of 763 you get (and if they turn it on).

I did the ATH route last year and even though I only booked about three weeks out the aircraft on the ATH-LHR segment changed so many times, even after OLCI! When I booked it was a midhaul A321, longhaul 767, then a shorthaul 767, then after OLCI it switched to an A320 and then an A321 showed up!

Assuming you have the shorthaul 767 you'll get overhead screens with IFE. On the LHR-ATH flight there was one film shown. On the A321 we had the map which, IMO, was much more interesting!

ALL shorthual services to/from LHR/LGW in economy are Buy on Board (BoB), except Moscow. The 767s in the fleet are now only shorthual, so no chance to get a longhual configuration. ATH has historically been one of the few European cities where the 767 has always shown up on one of the daily flights (along with LCA/DME/IST), and should be fairly guaranteed (the BA 632/633?). That being said, the 767 fleet is getting old, and the chances of a tech issue is always there. Case in point, there are currently 3 767s "off sick" and today's flight is operated by leased A340 (CS-TQZ). YMMV.

ATH is one of the few shorthual routes where BA have paid for IFE rights, so there should be a film shown on the overhead screens (assuming the aircraft is equipped with such).

Which for those in the premium cabin is quite an upgrade! This is one of the ex-EK A343s that has almost lie flats in F, and the old style 2-3-2 in J. Whether BA use the F cabin....dunno. The ATH flights can be pretty well subscribed in J so it could spill over into F. I had an LHR-ATH flight a few years ago that was 17 rows in Club Europe a month before the flight! Last year it was close to the same.

Wish I'd have known the A343 was on ATH - would have tried to jump on ! Is there any way of knowing next few days movements of that aircraft ?

Interesting about the IFE. On my BA LHR-MAD 777-200 flight they said IFE will not be shown due to some EU law. What is that ? Do you know ?

If you're flying Y on a BA 763, try to book row 16 or lower - you'll get an old style Club Europe seat with loads of space. I love flying on these planes and will be sorry to see them go.
