What's the most number of stops you've made on a trip between two cities?

I recently flew from SLC to Phnom Penh - 3 layovers in LAX, ICN, and SIN (on SQ). What trips have you taken with more layovers?

That woud be two, Amsterdam-Singapore-Surabaya-bali. I prefer nonstop so do my best to eliminate stopover.

The most I did was CWB-GRU-GIG-BSB- [xxx]-MAO on Varig 737 classics. The GRU-MAO leg was all on the same plane. The xxx is for an intermediate stop that for some reason has eluded my records but I recall there being one. The flight did continue on from MAO to somewhere on the Peruvian border but again I can't recall exactly where - but then I didnt do that segment.

Interesting you should mention Phnom Penh. My longest number of stops was a flight from PNH > BKK last year which ended up as PNH > BKK > PNH > VTE > DMK and a total journey time of 3 weeks for a direct line distance of 500km. Those first 2 flights (PNH > BKK > PNH) were on the same afternoon and didn't involve leaving the airport. Long story.

Transit stops is just 3 actually I think. KWI->DXB->MCT->KUL->OOL.

So far five airports, but one was a bus connection between the two airports so three flights.

Amsterdam - Stockholm - Bangkok Suvarnabhumi - Bangkok Don Mueang - Chiang Mai. I think you can see where the bus connection was.

The maximum number of stops for me has been two a number of times as I have always lived in metro areas that have major hubs (SFO, DFW and MIA). Most recent one was in 2016 when I flew from FLL to CLT (stayed on plane) to SEA on A.A.

1970. A new no seniority F/A on reserve that got the least popular trip for a DCA-based crew to work. Only had to do it once.
DCA-RIC-PHF-ORF-ECG-RWI-RDU-CLT-AVL-TRI-TYS. Flight 565. Departed DCA 1500 arriving TYS 2250.
Overnight and repeat return leg same stops the next morning as Flight 562.
Pilot crew change in CLT. F/A rode it all the way. At 25 years of age it was still a long and hard day at work.
Martin 404 that subsequently became a YS-11 when the Martin's were retired shortly thereafter.
I seriously questioned my decision to fly for a living that night when I fell into bed at 2330. No food all day.
I vividly remember trying to serve a snack and cocktails for the "businessmen" segment between RDU-CLT in 45 minutes as we bounced
along at 9000' altitude. The cockpit told me twice to sit down but I was busy making martini's and ignored them. That changed with experience!
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. As a passenger!

SAN-DFW-MEM-HSV - Originally scheduled for SAN-DFW-HSV on AA; Misconnected at DFW so they put me on DFW-MEM-HSV on NW - the only time I every flew on NW
SAN-SLC-MCI-STL - Originally scheduled for SAN-SLC-STL; After departure from SLC, captain told the pax we would stop at MCI to load fuel, in case we needed to circle in STL because of developing fog; Didn't leave the aircraft at MCI

Many moons ago, say 13, managed 4 airports between STL and MCI on a mileage run on American, not including DFW twice. Just 1 on the return

Vast, vast majority of my flights have been non-stop. Even single connections are few and far between.

Only made two stops a couple of times - and one of those trips only involved a second connecting airport due to a bus trip.

Last summer I made 6 or 7 stops on a single flight number with Wideroe, on a Dash 8-100, from Tromsø to Kirkenes. It was a great flight, particularly as some of it was spent in the jumpseat.

Crikey takes me back - to 1988! LHR-FCO-BOM-SIN-MEL-SYD on AZ. Heathrow to Rome on an A300, then 742 for the rest of the trip. If I recall over 30 hours travelling. Happy days!

My longest flight with multiple stops was with Garuda Indonesia in February 1986 onboard a Boeing 747-200, same flight number with a transit time of 3 hours at Jakarta only to reboard the same aircraft for the continuation of the flight to London Gatwick.

Sydney-Melbourne-Bali-Jakarta-Singapore-Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt-London Gatwick.

My shortest flight with multiple stops was with Royal Air Morocc including a change of aircraft and flight number and an hours transit at Casablanca Airport on a Boeing 735.

London Heathrow-Tangier-Casablanca-Agadir.

On a single ticket mine would be 7 stops, on a LADE F28-1000C and Saab 340B:

Buenos Aires - Mar del Plata - Barriloche - Comodoro Rivadavia - Perito Moreno - El Calafate - Rio Gallegos - Rio Grande.

On multiple tickets but one continuous journey, my return was the longest at 55 hours door to door:

Ushuaia - El Calafate - Buenos Aires - Sao Paulo - Doha - Barcelona - Copenhagen - London

DL - originally booked for ORF-MSP-DLH. Due to weather delays rebooked on the app ORF-DTW-MSP-DLH and it ended up being a nightmare as I was 2nd row from the back on a 757-300 on DTW-MSP with a 45 minute connect. We arrived at the end of one finger of MSP and my departing flight to DLH from the end of an opposite finger of MSP, boarding door was shut right behind me and I was last to board the A320 to DLH completely out of breath. If an elderly person or even someone 10 years my senior was on the same itinerary they would have missed it, but it was still a legal connection per DL.

Interesting my longest is 4 stops to HKT, IND-JFK-DXB-DOH-BKK-HKT, although I was meeting a few people along the way so that's what lead to the extra long itinerary.

In 2015 I treated myself to 11 legs in 36 hours:

ORD-MSP-ATY-PIR-DEN-DFW-ATL-STL-MAW-STL-DEC-ORD

In the beginning, all I wanted was to score a ride in an MD-80. Then I started planning and puzzling. It kinda got out of hand :-)

11 take-offs and landings, 10 different airports (of which 8 new to me), 8 different planes, 7 different types (*all* of which new to me), 6 different airlines (of which 5 new to me).

Although not really a typical A-Xn-B itinerary, I do consider this one single trip. For fun, but a single trip with lots of consecutive stops nevertheless. So I think it applies here.

Wow, that's a long way around to Phuket! On the way back, I actually stopped for a while in HKG, but that is crazy both our routes with the most stops were to HKT.

Back in the late 70's or early 80'd I did four intermediate stops (five total including the destination) on something like SFO-PDX on Hughes Airwest. That was one of the craziest flights I ever remember taking. It was a real milk run. Some of the stops were only 20 minutes apart, and the crew let the passengers just mill around on the tarmac for smoke breaks as we loaded and unloaded. In most cases we did not park at gates, but at remote stands.

I also remember the plane was really shabby to the point that I did not feel safe. The seats were torn, there was graffiti on the interior walls and part of the left engine pylon aerodynamic cowling was missing. I'm sure it was not a required part, but it just added to the impression that the airline did not care about maintaining its planes.
