Can anyone ID this freighter livery?

Fri Dec 08, 2017 3:26 am

Earlier this week I flew through HKG. At the cargo terminal I saw an aircraft -- possibly a 747F -- with a white tail that has a light green half-moon on the trailing part of the tail. The half-moon was surrounded by a light blue line.

Ring any bells for anyone?

I would say that it rings a bell along the line of Air Hong Kong.

If I look up pictures of Air Hong Kong I only see a yellow tail, he's talking about a white tail. Also I don't see a moon on their tail.

I'd say the moon indicates towards some Islamic country, but so far I haven't been able to figure out which one.

Does PIA have a Cargo Division?

Jade Cargo no longer exist although they had a small green logo on a white tail.

Just checked: ceased ops in 2011! Wow, I’m getting out of date...

Maybe it's the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's government/private 747?

It would have been around 9AM HKG time, Tuesday 5 December.

The tail looked something like this (excuse my lack of artistic talents!)

I have tried to post this twice, if there are a double post of images, I am sorry. But look up photo ID 4524967 in the database. Your drawing looks like that plane, which is what I suggested earlier.

Except it lacks the green half-moon ... which is on the rear part of the tail.

There's an easy trick to include a photo in a posting. It's like this:

[photoid]4524967[/photoid]

Which results in this:

And as it turns out, that's not the plane we're looking for.

I ran a replay of that time on flightradar24 and at around 0320UTC (I guess that's 1120 HK time), there is a Global Africa Cargo MD-11 appearing, registration Z-GAA:

Now that's not green and blue but green and red, but so far it would be my best guess.

Most excellent!
(That was the route I was heading down when I asked for the exact timing)
I do believe you have nailed it. Let's hope the OP agrees. :D

That could well have been it! Thanks.

I was second-guessing myself on the blue ... so it's very possible I didn't remember it correctly. I only saw a short glimpse of it, so I didn't pick up the two shades of green either (I wasn't able to see the tail-mounted engine, which would have been a dead giveaway as well!)
