### AA Advantage EQM Calculation Code

Has anyone actually been able to crack the code of how one can accurately calculate the EQM's for AA Advantage? I have already read everything they published ( inadequate), a ton of other stuff on the web and it seems that this is a really byzantine and secretive thing.

It is not difficult - on AA metal it is simply how many miles your flight is (unless your are flying basic economy where it is 1/2 of your flight mileage).

EQM's are easy, they're essentially butt in seat miles. If you're an elite, there's a minimum of 500 miles per segment. If you are in discount business or first, you get 2 EQM's per mile flown. If you're in full fare first or business, it's 3 EQM's per mile flown. The more difficult calculation is award miles with the bonuses and such. Just remember that award miles are based only on the fare, not the taxes and government surcharges. I mainly fly AA metal, so I can't speak for how OW carriers get credited.

One difference between the other legacy carriers... you get 500 EQMs for any flight under 500 miles.

### Re: AA Advantage EQM Calculation Code

What is the complexity? For AA flights (I think AA ticket stock, not necessarily AA metal, but usflyer msp may be right) its distance multiplied by a fare class multiplier that's shown at https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/par ... rlines.jsp. So, if you fly in most coach fares, EQM = miles x 1.0. For full-fare coach and premium economy, it's miles x 1.5. Business gets a 2.0 multiplier while international first gets 3.0.

For OneWorld partner airlines, the formula is still miles x multiplier. The multipliers vary by fare class and airline. See the list of partners at https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-prog ... lines.jsp; click one to see the multiplier in effect for each fare class flown by that airline.

Although you didn't ask, it may be worth noting that the EQD formula differs for AA flights vs partner flights. For AA, the EQDs are based on the base fare paid (i.e., without taxes). For partners, since AA doesn't know what the passenger paid, the EQD formula is miles x multiplier. Note that the EQD multiplier is NOT the same as the EDM multiplier.

I believe DL also has that rule. Does UA not?
This is my signature until I think of a better one.

I stand corrected... you are right that DL has that. UA does not... whenever I fly CLE to ORD on AA, it's 500 EQM. On UA, it's just 316 PQM.
