Biggest airports with the least 777 service?

Mon Mar 26, 2018 5:13 pm

What are the biggest airports with the least amount of 777 service? (not to be confused with airports without 777 service)

In the UK, I would say STN, LTN and EDI are all pretty large with minimal/zero 777 service.
Flown in: A20N,A21N,A30B,A306,A310,A319,A320,A321,A332,A333,A343,A346,A359,A388,BA11,BU31,(..56 more types..),VC10,WESX

Emirates are launching DXB-STN with a 777 in the summer, I can't think of any regular 777 operations to LTN or EDI.

MAN might not have that many 777s. EY are on 777s, but EK are on A380s and QR 787s. CX and SQ are on A350s. The long haul charters are mostly A330s.

FRA? ATL? In comparison to their size.

BWI serves 26 million passengers a year and has exactly 0 scheduled passenger 777s. Last was BA in the early 2000s before it was replaced with the 767.
Other airports with no 777 (that I can think of):
SJC
OAK
MDW
CLT
DAL
HOU
SWA, UAL, DAL, AWE, ASA, TRS, DLH, CLH, AFR, BAW, EIN, AAL, FFT | E190 DC94 CRJ2 B712 B733 B737 B738 B739 B744 B752 B753 B762 B77W A319 A320 A20N A321 A333 A343 A388 MD88

EL AL often use a B777 into Luton especially during high season.

Stansted will as you mention see a daily Emirates B77W from June but Fed Ex also use the B777F twice daily into Stansted along with the odd Qatar Cargo B777F as most their flights are on A330F, up until recently Ethihad Cargo also used the B777F into the airport.

To be fair, Runways in MDW can't handle a 777 and all of the airports you like list all have airports in the same region that have plenty of schedule 777 flights. The lone exception is CLT.

30mil pax a year at CPH, and only a few 777 movements (appx 10-15 per week).
Regulars are PK, TG and SQ.
Seasonal AC
QR will upgrade to B77W in the fall though.

MSP unless KLM puts one in there.
Didn't UA move most of them out of IAH?
Agree about CLT. Perfect.

Now that I think about it, DEN only has one 777 to HNL. That’s pretty surprising actually.

No, you’re thinking of the 787’s. IAH has a TON of 777’s, not just from UA but foreign carriers as well.

MSP has the 777 to HDN correct?

SLC and CLT come to mind.

BOG lost its only scheduled 777 pax service last year when KLM switched to the B787-9. 30+ million passengers per year go through Latin America's third busiest airport.

What??? Doesn't AI, EK, etc fly 777s everyday to DEL? I would find that very hard to believe.

That would be too few compared to the scale of operations at DEL. I guess DEL would have one of the fewest number of 777 ops for any 60m+ airport.

Edit: This is wrong.

ATL gets a lot of 777s. Manly Delta, British, KLM, Korean, Air France, and Qatar (Even though they are switching to the A350 in the summer).

How about SZX? 45M passenger a year, but barely any 777 services at all other than occasional few domestic/regional wide body flights

I know BA has operated the 777 in the past (not sure if it still flies there or not), and I have also seen some domestic 777s going to ORD and IAD at DEN, but I don't believe there are currently any scheduled other than HNL.

CLT is probably the largest without any 777 service (hopefully it will in the near future though with AA retiring its A333s). CTU only has one on KLM, and that might rotate between the 777 and 747. BOG doesn't have any scheduled passenger 777 service either, but I believe they have cargo service on the 777.

I think we still get a 777 from LAX. Probably from SFO too? For awhile they were going to EWR, but that may not be the case anymore. I’m sure United will bring more to DEN.

BA switched to the 747 back in 2015.

PHL currently has zero 777 service, now that BA is at 1x daily 744 for good.

PHX also does not have 777 service of any kind.

Someone already spoke for MDW, but HOU's runways are also too short for the 777, but I'm pretty certain they have them up the road in IAH.

After a dummy booking I found that United flies the 752 to EWR. But I'm pretty sure there are occasional 777 flights to SFO and LAX, but I'm still not 100% sure.

Add 9W to it - the flight to LHR and on occasion to HKG/SIN.
TK, SQ for sure.
Depending on the season the number of B777s at DEL change to something bigger (KL/BA) or smaller (AF). Plenty of B777s at DEL.

As for MSP - I can only think of HND and CDG, so barely any B777s there...

Well when BA are using the B744 into SAN. That's the largest true single runway airport and no B777 operations. (except the aforementioned BA when they use B77W/B772 instead of B744)
