Chile specialist needed

Wed May 02, 2018 7:58 pm

I need to fly Santiago to Puerto Natales. Looking at the Puerto Natales airport website I see flights arriving and leaving to Santiago. I want to buy tickets to fly this route but the airline webpages do not have Puerto Natales as a choice. So how do people buy tickets to get there? What am I doing wrong? Is it because I am outside Chile? Flightconnections shows the flights but Skyscanner does not? What is this stealth operation?

Certainly not being a Chile expert myself I am pretty sure the flights into Puerto Natales are southern summer seasonal since that is when most tourists go to Torres del Paine. i can't find any flights down there in northern Summer either. Your best bets should be Punta Arenas or El Calafate, Argentina which in its own right is stunning with Los Glaciares.

I see flights now in May, so the season may be ending but not totally over, but nevertheless I cannot access buying tickets to those flights. Could they all be charter package holiday flights?

I live in Chile and I have the Latam App on my phone. I did a search for SCL to Puerto Natales and there are no such flights available in the next months. That at least discard the possibilty of your location or nationality being a factor. My brother in law did a trip to Torres del Paine recently and he took a flight to Punta Arenas and then a road trip to Torres del Paine. Good luck and have a nice stay.

The Puerto Natales airport website shows LAN flight numbers 293 and 284 to and from Santiago for today. Very fortunate passengers. Have yet to check if planefinder.com shows these stealth flights.

OK, I did a new search now in my personal computer. The website of LAN/LATAM only shows flights Santiago to Punta Arenas. When you try to get a flight to Puerto Natales the website automatically change to Punta Arenas. In the section of places to visit, the LATAM website talks about a flhght of 3.5 hours between SCL and Punta Arenas and after that, a road trip of 226 kms. between Punta Arenas and Puerto Natales.
When you try to book a flight SCL to Puerto Natales in other websites like Despegar.cl or Atrapalo.cl, the search only got results for January and Februrary.
My conclusion is, there are no direct flights SCL-Puerto Natales, except for charters, and seasonal flights for January and February.
In any case, as far as I know, the landscapes are very beautiful and you should enjoy the 226 kms. of bus ride.
Rgds.
