Transiting in Sydney

Sun Jun 10, 2018 8:00 pm

Hello!
Anybody have experience connecting onto another flight via Sydney? I am looking booking a flight AKL-SYD-YVR for the return trip. It would be Air New Zealand connecting to Air Canada via SYD. There is is 1hr 35 mins to connect. Is that enough time or am I risking it?

Thanks!

As long as your NZ flight is on time there should be no problem. They normally park in the same area of the terminal, so the only hold up will be doing a security screening and for internatiobal transfer passengers, that is usually pretty quick.

I've transitted via SYD internationally twice. LHR SYD AKL and return on QF. At 5am it was ok. But coming back some passengers were having a nightmare. I had a 10 hour layover so I was letting people go past me in a rush. Like anywhere you get busy times and quiet times. Travel light. You can get through security quicker. If your flight is late your may need to push forward to get through.

The main issue is is it on the one ticket? You'll be good if it is. Otherwise check if there's an interline agreement for baggage. You don't want to be collecting you bags and check in again. There's no time for that.

In my view 35 .minutes is far too tight for SYD regardless of the arrival and departure within the same terminal. For a start your bags may not make it. Secondly you will be constantly worrying if you're delayed. Thirdly there's only one YVR flight daily and no good option of getting there the same day if you miss it. All9w 90 minutes minimum

Yes it is one ticket. Baggage will directly connect onto AC. Ticket is booked. Hopefully all will go well. Didn’t have another option.

Sorry Matthew11
I didn't notice the 1hr in front of the 35m! Yes that is more than sufficient to transfer. Good travels. Steve
