Could Turkish Airlines' new safety video be the most amazing safety video yet

Wed Aug 01, 2018 7:31 pm

I think this is the most amazing safety video I've seen in a while. There are so many references to other safety videos its brilliant. I also think that this does a great job of engaging children, the most important thing right now is communicating the importance of safety onboard in a medium they will relate to.

Completely disagree. I am usually one to love watching new videos and seeing the creativity flow. But had to fast forward through this one as it got annoying, the voices especially. Not sure I understand the Lego reference, especially for Turkish. To each his own, but I wouldn't want to watch this more than once. Feel sorry for the business travelers that use TK regularly.

yea, wow that's too much energy for me. Kids would love it. But these briefings aren't directed at 10 and under children. Even in the video the adults are instructed to do the mask stuff for the child. So idk why they would position a video for an audience that isn't supposed to receive it.

Ok, I am a dad so I get all of the jokes and Lego movie references. This will be a HUGE hit with the kids and those who have seen the Lego movie. BTW, I think they have a part 2 coming out soon so that is probably why it was done.

This one you mean right? :)

Turkey has such a rich history which they could advertise and in the past I found their ads very interesting. This one as an example is both really well made and it conveys the message nicely https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pS7JBHxdxko so for me the safety video is a let down... Couldn't even watch it all.

It's like the British Airways one. The first 2 or 3 times it's amusing, but then its incredibly annoying.

Amazing is not a word I would use to describe it. I didn't think the frigging thing was ever going to end. IMO, the best continue to be from NZ.

Irritating.

I think the whole Lego thing is cool but as a safety demo it's just too busy, try hard and taxing to watch.

In all honesty, I wish airlines would stop trying so hard with their safety videos. Originally the all singing, all dancing kind of video would go viral on social media and the airline would gain a decent amount of good publicity but like everything that goes viral, it has a very short shelf life and no longer has the interest of the general public.

The Air France video is perfect, it's classy, humours, visually attractive and most importantly, it gets the message across well. American also does a pretty good job, no gimmicks or silliness, just some clever visuals and clear instructions. Both are true to their brands as well.

Just when I thought nothing could top the cringeworthiness of DL's safety video that referenced all those viral internet videos, along comes this. I'd rather put my ears through a cheese grater than repeatedly hear that voice.

BINGO! We have a WINNER!

I am not a Lego fan, but that might be one of the best safety video's ever. Plus as the OP said, the kids will love it.

Hat's off TK for trying something different.

I like the fact that it's different, and agree it'll get children attention.

Boring safety videos are actually self defeating, if passengers are bored by it, they won't be paying attention.

NZ does have some good ones, and I quite like VS' current one that covers different film genres.

This was great! If you haven't seen the Lego movie I can understand how you would not be able to watch this or find it annoying though.

Also Lego when are you going to make a TK 777 set? I want one!

It's a movie franchise that's grossed close to $1 billion worldwide. Not sure why it's hard to understand.

I know what Legos are, thanks. What I don't understand is how this franchise of a Danish-based company has anything to do with Turkish Airlines, and particularly their safety video. Which itself is geared to comprehending minds sitting on board and listening to important information. $1 billion dollars in worldwide revenue from a kid's movie is irrelevant to me as a traveler, as well as a very large portion of the population.

Very annoying. Almost on a par with the BA one.

What's wrong with a simple, professional video?

Too long, most passengers won't pay attention for that long. Even worse, they play these safety videos in 2 or 3 languages, so it will take 8 to 12 minutes to get through them.
BTW, during my training, we were taught many times that a briefing shouldn't last more than 27-30 second, lest you lose the attention of the other pilot. IMHO, same should apply to passengers.

It is a great safety video. Considering most of TK's passengers are VFR and once/twice-a-year traveller, this strategy might work in favour of TK. I quite understand people did not want to watch it twice if you see this video too many times on a US domestic run or pan-European road trip too often. But for the market TK serves, I think it is brilliant. (remember even for the US carrier like AA the one-off travellers are almost 80%+ among its flyers)

Now if TK is selling the Lego set on the airplane...

All new "funny" safety vids, particularly this Turkish one, miss their main goal i.e. SAFETY.

That was by far the worst and most annoying safety video I’ve ever seen. It was cool they tried something different, but it still doesn’t beat the VX safety dance. At least that was catchy and never got annoying for me on my dozens of flights with them. The Singapore Airlines safety video mentioned above takes the cake, however, as far as innovative safety videos go.

Like some others said, I couldn't finish watching. It was quite annoying and high strung. It seems like airlines are trying to outdo one another resulting with some videos being very poorly done (i.e. EVA Air). Safety videos need to be clear and draw attention from passengers from the young to the old and to the first time flyers. Most of my flying involves UA and though I don't like flying UA, I find their safety video to be well done and clear.

It is funny and amusing in its way but on the other hand I find it very unprofessional for a business airline.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

As a frequent flyer with TK i must say this video is far from being the best, on the contrary, it's rather annoying, it's very hard to take it seriously. Unfortunately airlines chase today after gimmicks when it comes to safety videos, and sometimes it goes over the limit. TK's previous safety video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZlsygmkEGE) was far more enjoyable than this one.
