Foreign carrier with most planes on ground at same time

Mon Aug 13, 2018 9:28 pm

At ewr today, saw three SAS planes on ground. Got me thinking ... what carriers have scheduled planes on ground at same time in foreign cities?

UA at NRT?

BA at JFK?

AC at any particular US airport?

There is another topic on that, believe its named photo of five virgin/ba tails or something like that. It was active last week.

In short, I believe answer was draw between Delta at AMS and CDG.

QF at LAX - Simultaneous 2x A380, and 747s, plus 787s

historically probably DL/NW at NRT but likely not any more. Probably as high as 12 or 13 at once.

EK used to have 4 on the ground at AKL at one stage, all A380’s for a period.

Foreign could mean a lot of things. I mean, Ryanair is an Irish airline but their largest base is London Stansted. Technically they're a foreign airline there, but there can be over thirty of their aircraft on the ground at Stansted at the same time sometimes. Same goes for other large Ryanair bases outside Ireland, although the number of aircraft may be lower.

^^
Wouldn't they count as EU airlines? As it's a single air space, open acces (sort of), in the EU-rule-sense they are not foreign airlines.

Tour operators tend to schedule flight arrivals in closely timed waves, to ease the logistics of distributing passengers to different resorts / hotels. This means you can have large numbers of TUI / Condor / Thomas Cook etc... planes on the ground at the traditional holiday airports around the Med and Canarys.

Add two other to the list:
UA @ NRT: 9 planes, 1555 to 1610
DL @ NRT: 7 planes, 1500 to 1600
Side note - AA has 3 planes that will be at NRT at 1600, total of 4 between 1640 and 1755, so basically you got 19 US-carrier planes at NRT between 1555 and 1600. Not quite the sea of red tails at NRT like the old days, but still insane.

Another side note: For the 20+ flights that CX fly to TPE everyday, the maximum number of simultaneous planes at a gate (thus, not counting overnight parking) is 4. They do have 5 planes that park overnight at TPE, though.
