Guessing one is for DEN based on the comments the other week that a new European destination is coming soon from UA.

DEN-AMS?

DEN-AMS would be surprising, especially given Delta's presence on other USA-AMS routes. I'd expect KLM to do it before UA.

If you unjumble the words, here are the cities you can find:

1. Amsterdam (from DEN)
2. Naples (from EWR)
3. Prague (from EWR)

If you take the letters "N-e-w-a-r-k" out of hint 2 you're left with a-e-l-p-t-o-n-s. You can form "to Naples" out of the remaining letters; you can't form Seoul.

I'm pretty sure #1 is "San Francisco to Amsterdam". #2 would be "Newark to Naples." #3 would be "Newark to Prague."

Perhaps United doesn't consider Denver - Frankfurt a "new route" as they already JV the LH flight. . .

Back to the topic at hand, if anybody is reading this thread in its new home.

Remember when AA and DL announced their new routes for Summer 2019, they also discontinued some routes! For all the fanfare, AA had basically a net zero in new routes for S19, and DL had a +2.

Not saying UA will discontinue some routes, but just bringing this up.

I was wondering when we might see a U.S. carrier give NAP a try. PRG was, like KEF, getting to be far too popular for UA (and AA) to ignore any longer. Now that CDG, MUC and ZRH have been added from SFO, AMS makes perfect sense as the next transatlantic addition.

This thread was moved to Polls, because the OP is polling users for guesses for an upcoming route announcement. The thread is now in the proper forum. The official announcement will be posted in Civ Av when it is made as usual.

It's not a poll. The OP is referencing this post on United's Instagram teasing new routes:

And United's Official Twitter page. https://twitter.com/united

This is basically an official announcement. Not at all a poll. I mean people post "When will XXX airlines fly to XXX airport" all the time. This is actually legit but gets moved?!?

Delta did JFK-Pisa for a while. Have there been any regular NAP-USA non-stops in the last two decades?

Yes, eurofly (then Meridiana) from 2005 till 2017 between NAP and JFK (along with PMO-JFK)

United international route announcement

Wed Aug 29, 2018 10:28 pm

On United's Instragram page, there is a post about 3 new route annoucements tomorrow along with hints. The clues are:

1) aircraftmen coasts nomands
2) arena kelp towns
3) orange kraut pew

I'm stumped. Guesses...?

As three word hints, could they be the airport codes? #1 being ACN, etc...? Dunno.

IIRC, these are anagrams & coalways is rightfully the thread winner. Wow big announcements, seasonal I'd imagine?

Kudos to codc10 who got it right in the first thread that was wrongfully put in the polls forum, the death of any thread. Since it was NOT speculative as to the routes, the answers were right in front of you, just in cryptic form, The answers had already been provided. Just because mods didn't get the answers, there is no reason I can't congratulate the member who originally solved the anagram.

This is why the thread was moved; the OP arranged the structure of the topic as a poll.

For users who think I'm on a "power trip", I promise you I have better things to do with my time. Comments regarding moderation were removed by myself and other moderators as being off-topic, since that discussion belongs in Site Related. Feel free to continue discussing my power trip there, but I'll ask you to first review the definition of each of the forums, along with the forum rules regarding off-topic commentary and discussion of moderator actions.

Please keep the thread on topic from this point forward: the OP requested this to be a route speculation thread, and that's what it'll be. If the thread can't stay on topic, then it may be locked.

Well, I give them kudos for some fun PR! They will make for 3 awesome red lines on the HEMISPHERES route map page!
What kind of ac would they open Naples with?
I assume Prague would see a 763
SFO to Amsterdam maybe a 788 to open it?

If these routes are indeed the new ones, can we assume EWR-NAP and EWR-PRG are going to be on the 767-300ER with SFO-AMS on the 787-8 or 787-9?

1. There is no "V" in the first clue, it perfectly spells out San Francisco to Amsterdam

UA does remarkably well in AMS considering its not a Star alliance hub. Five daily flights serving EWR, IAD, ORD, IAH and now SFO. I might be wrong, but I think that puts AMS in a tie for third largest European station for UA. Tied with CDG which also has five daily flights but on only four routes (EWR 2x, IAD, ORD, SFO).

The top two stations obviously being LHR, FRA.

Remember boys and girls, when AA and DL recently announced, with great fanfare, their new routes for Summer 2019, they also discontinued some routes! For all the fanfare, AA had basically a net zero in new routes for S19, and DL had a +2.

United has 10 brand new Wide Body aircraft coming online by next June they have to fly them somewhere I doubt anything gets the axe.

MUC is also 5x daily (EWR, IAD, ORD, IAH, SFO), though SFO is seasonal. I’d guess SFO-AMS will be the same.

Kirby did say that at the Boyd Conference in DEN last week, but no destination or date was announced.

They very well could announce SFO-AMS, EWR-PRG, and EWR-NAP as "three new routes" and then also announce DEN-FRA with much less fanfare as that's not really a new route with LH already on it.

You are right technically DEN-FRA would be a resumption as UA flew it for a season in the past.

Assuming that all three/four routes will be seasonal. I'm looking forward to SFO-AMS and actually wish it was flying this weekend as I'm having to connect through IAH to get across the pond.

Actually DL did not lose as much as AA, Newark moved to JFK keeping the same New York - Paris CDG frequencies, in addition to increasing LAX-CDG / AMS, adding another flights to TLV and maintaining the JFK-LIS flight throughout the year, DL got a significant increase, and I think that PIT is a minimum loss was a seasonal flight and with a Boeing 757, which if I thought it was crazy was the routes that eliminated AA

It's offically a 763 for NAP and PRG. A 789 for AMS.

Is this a sign that UA is going to expand their European network from SFO? LHR, CDG, AMS and FRA all year round and MUC and ZRH both seasonal. Potential for them to add service to places like DUB, MAD and make ZRH and MUC year round?

Has anyone done the math regarding the entire WB fleet once the 14 78Js are flying, the recent 789 top-off arrive, the 3 Hawaiian 767’s and all 767’s and 772s are fully refurbished and in service, how many new routes could be opened?
I realize that the 752’s may or may not still be flying TATL, I don’t know how much longer they will last, I don’t know if the flat bed 73M-10 can fly those TATL 752 routes or if they will get a new J seat.
But I can easily think of a bunch of routes; Europe, South America and Africa and ME that could be served nonstop.
