Cannot agree more. In my work place top people bashing airlines and their employees day in day out are the supposedly loyal customers/frequent fliers. The entitlement is another level and some confessed to verbally abusing employees when they did not get their way.

Security = ensuring no prohibited items enter the airside/secure area.
Immigration = control of people crossing the border into a country
Customs = control of goods entering into a country and ensuring any applicable duty/tax is collected.
In some cases, such as when flying into the Schengen Zone but connecting to another Schengen country (JFK-AMS-MAD for example) you can clear immigration and customs in different countries, so it is very important to know the difference between immigration and customs.

When I hear these complaints at a gate, I point out I would rather arrive safely, and late, in an operational aircraft than have departed on time in an unsafe one. This usually shuts them up quickly.

Heard on a flight I operated with a 6 month old ATR 72-600. We had 50 sobbing women in the back crying their eyes out because they legitimately thought they were going to die. They were initially scheduled to go with a 30 year old 737-300 from a rather dubious airline.
"Flight cancelled/delayed because of a technical issue, the airline must be unsafe".
No, unsafe is the airline that doesn't cancel when it has a technical issue

And of course - although not exactly something people say per se - applauding after landing, especially after rough ones. Surprised no one brought that up yet.
