Pan Ams RTW flight was 1 eastbound
and 2 westbound

United’s flight 1 is SFO-SIN

I’m sure there’s other notable examples

And LH1's callsign is DLH6CF (for now...)

Would be interesting to know which airports see the most 0001 flight numbers. Going off user submissions it would seem LHR, JFK, NRT and LAX all have multiple with LHR as the clear leader.

Additionally, it would be neat to see the historical usage of 0001 for different airlines. For example, pre-merger, UA1 was ORD-HNL. Immediately after the merger I recall seeing UA1 on the IAH-MCO route. SFO-SIN being the latest city pair to see it.

To be more exact, it's ICN-NRT-HNL.

Add on: CI 1: HNL-TPE, used to be HNL-NRT-TPE IIRC until they switched the flight to a non-stop.

Also SQ1, SFO-HKG-SIN. Another long running route, and still running (for now) even after SQ started non-stop SFO-SIN.

Another "reserved" number is VN1, reserved for the PM of Vietnam (Usually it's flown with a Vietnam Airlines 789).

Same thing can be said about SAS 1. Stockholm Arlanda as a destination I can understand, it's one of their hubs. But why Lulea? What makes Lulea so special that it gets flight number 1.

although NZ1 is now LHR-LAX-AKL, it used to be AKL-HKG-LHR-LAX-AKL. NZ2 did the same route in reverse. I have flown both, but spaced out over about 6 months each time. Sadly NZ dropped the AKL-HKG-LHR part both ways.

That is incorrect, NZ1/2 is AKL-LAX-LHR-LAX-AKL and always has been for as long as I can remember.

AKL-HKG-LHR was NZ38/39 the entire time it existed.

Sorry. Bad memory. I didn’t recall my boarding passes for the times I just transited AKL. USually it is a stopover but a couple of times and on the round the world trips I think I just hung out at the airport. It was a long layover but I don’t remember how long. Now I can’t remember why I did it. Must have been some strange air fare sale.

PR 1 refers to any chartered flight carrying the President of the Philippines on board.

I distinctly remember NW 1 though being LAX-NRT.

All good. Pretty sure NZ did advertise it as RTW. HKG-LHR initially used a 744 while LAX switched to the 772, then there was a period where they were both 744’s before LAX went 772 again, with the GFC they changed LAX back to the 744 and HKG to the 772 with HKG 5 weekly most of the last 2-3 years it operated.

Looks like you can almost go round-the-world in Flight 001s:
HKG-SIN SQ1
SIN-LHR QF1
LHR-LAX NZ1
LAX-HNL HA1
HNL-TPE CI1
...leaving just a TPE-HKG gap.
or:
SFO-(HKG)-SIN SQ1/UA1 leaving a LAX-SFO gap.
