PIA 5th Freedom Routes ex Scandinavia

Tue Sep 18, 2018 9:17 am

Hi to you all,

need some help and advice! Currently PIA is offering some interesting 5th Freedom Rights flights ex Scandinavia, like OSL-CPH and CPH-OSL with their B777. Unfortunately, these flights are open for booking only until October 2018... From November on, despite the official timetable of PIA still listing these flights, but no availability is shown on any of these services. Any idea what's going on? Will PIA discontinue the offering or when will they upload the fares (btw. the winter fares to Pakistan are already in the system)? Unfortunately, in true PIA customer service fashion, PIA is not responding to any email...

ThanX Chris

That's an interesting one. Never hear about it before. .. may be they haven't loaded the co.plete winter schedule or just no more flight. Why don't you ring them and see if you can get some sort of answer

I did - the GSA for Scandinavia couldn't give an answer, he suggest to contact PIA directly.

I booked a flight with them CPH-OSL earlier this summer for next weekend but it got cancelled, and as it's only 1x weekly I got moved to the flight a week later where I couldn't make it. I still have flights with FI/SK booked KEF-CPH/OSL-KEF, not sure if I find a cheap flight CPH-OSL and go anyway or just cut my losses.
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

It depends when your flight got cancelled, maybe you are entitled for compensation under EU-Regulation 261/2004. Don't worry you are not alone, all my attempts to fly PIA failed as flights got cancelled or are no longer bookable... However, last time PIA rebooked me onto swiss - so you might try!

Otherwise, on selected flights only, DY is operating the B737MAX8 and SK the A320neo on this route - might be an interesting alternative!

Unfortunately, so far I had no success to secure the flights. The PIA timetable still lists OSL-CPH and CPH-OSL flights, but impossible to book. PIA is not reacting to any emails I send.

My next hope would be SKT (Sialkot) to CDG via BCN - but the flights are not loaded yet. Any idea, if PK will sell this as a 5th freedom route?

You can always fly MXP-CDG, it is bookable via the PIA website, although not necessarily cheap.
It's operated on Fridays in the evening and maybe other days. I am booked on it in May, however continuing to ISB.

Yeap, according to PIA's webpage the routing is MXP-ISLAMABAD-CDG, so you have a layover of 7hrs +, total travel time 18:10hrs.

Looking fwd to your TR!

Weird stuff, you are right. I didn't notice the travel time.
In reality I hope it will fly MXP-CDG-ISB as it is quoted on my ticket, although I don't mind so much about the additional sector. It was just more convenient to start in MXP.

Loran

Sorry, I forget to add the travel time - in total is 25hrs +!
Are you sure and are you serious? I checked again the PIA webpage, yes the flight from MXP to ISB stops in CDG to pick up more passengers. So, it seems NOT POSSIBLE to leave a/c in CDG and continues straight to ISB. There you have to change onto PK719 back to CDG the next day...

There is one problem - you need a valid visa for Pakistan, good luck:

TWOV does not apply at Islamabad (ISB).
Important:
There are no transit facilities at Islamabad (ISB), passengers must comply with all entry regulations for Pakistan.

Yes of course, I will be in Pakistan for one week and I will have a valid visa.
The intent of my trip is not the PIA flight, it was just the cheapest way to travel there in business class.

Loran
