Do any airlines still offer free playing cards to passengers?

Wed Sep 19, 2018 10:56 am

Hi I recall when I was younger getting a few playing card decks particularly from Emirates which I remember were also free to passengers (or maybe just kids as I was still young back then)

Do any airlines still give playing cards?

That is an interesting question. I am not aware of any airline that still does. Hopefully there is one left!

I still have decks from Eastern and Pan Am from way back in the day. As a kid flying back then, they gave you cards, wings and I recall a pencil with an activity book. Don't have any of those unfortunately. Somehow I managed to keep a few decks, unopened over-the-ear headphones from Pan Am and quite a few wings.

Nostalgia....

Good luck finding anybody to play with you even if they did give out cards. Everyone's eyes are glued to their seat back screen or personal electronic device.

As of last year SQ was still giving away playing cards on request. I suspect they still do.

Delta gives them out at the gate, at least for a delayed flight they do. Got me two decks just the other month,

This summer LH and I'm pretty sure OU (Croatia) gave out a deck of cards to my children.

That’s impossible, I thought Delta didn’t have delayed flights?
Lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand, just find a place to make your stand and take it easy

TUI Nordic MMX-LCA June 2018.

My family were pleasantly surprised.

I have a CX deck which was given to me in 2014. I suppose CX still has playing cards?

Great to see so many that still do. I'll have to ask at the DL gate next time and see if they will give me one even if the flight isn't delayed. Worse they can say is no!

Ryanair has playing cards for sale on their flights. Not free of course, but not very expensive either. You can just ask for them on board.

Atlas Air still distributes Atlas Air playing cards on passenger charter flights. There are frequently many unopened packs left onboard after long flights. I have a stack of unopeded sets.

Playing cards help passengers calm down? This reminds me of inflight library. People, Time, U.S. News, etc. magazines (with clear plastic covers) were offered by flight attendants -- for onboard use only.

That still exists outside of the U.S., as it does for playing cards apparently.
The main change on complementary magazines and newspapers is that they are offered at the gate or terminal, rather than onboard the plane.

I have a deck or two from UA with the 787 on them they were handing out in J when the dreamliner was still a novelty (couple of years ago). I think they were with my amenity kit.

Did LH have any cards that weren't for children? Just out of curiosity - I asked for a pack in 2016 and I got the children's playing cards...
