Iberia service to the USA

Mon Oct 29, 2018 6:42 am

Im planning a trip to BCN with my friends in February. I want to treat myself to a new airline and new aircraft type and Iberia would offer both (via MAD of course).

My question is, does Iberia only fly the A330 to the US? I really want to fly the A340, but I think they only send it to MEX and further south.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

ORD, BOS & JFK all see the A346 occasionally, although JFK is now basically all A359. ORD is probably the most consistent of the 3.

They fly the A350 to JFK.
People are saying. Believe me.

LAX in the summer regularly gets the 346. It's 332 in the winter.

But yeah, ORD is probably your best bet, but they send a lot of 333s there as well. Next summer I believe ORD is getting the 350, though. MIA does also get a fair amount of 340s but less common than the others.

ORD is probably your best bet. Today, maybe as the first official day for the W18 season.... it is operating with A330. However, last week constantly flew using the A346 and I believe they'll keep it through the winter quite often. JFK still does have one of the two daily flights on A346. Looks like tickets for the route over the S19 will keep the afternoon flight on A346.

Alternatively you could book via LHR one way, as certain MAD-LHR flights are A340 operated - you'll need to double check in the schedules, but I've done this successfully a couple of times this year.

ORD will become A359 in S'19.

Both JFK flights feature the A359 unless there are any irregularities

I flew MAD-JFK on the 346 with the new Y+ last October. For what it cost it was worth the experience although Iberia isn't really much of a premium brand and I'm certainly in no hurry to fly out of MAD again. Best case it takes about 40 minutes, mostly on foot to get from the Cercanias platform to the gate (worse if there's a a long security queue), and then add a few minutes for the bus ride to the plane.

Certainly, I was checking schedules for May 2019 and by then Iberia still keeps the A346 in the afternoon departure until the 28th. The route to ORD will switch to A359 on the 22nd of June, being until then operated by A346 daily.

Looks like next year Iberia could get rid off some A346 if they definitely stop using this frames which are currently serving ORD and JFK. This will probably mean two frames are liberated of these sectors. The only route I have heard is transferred to A346 is GRU, daily. That'll need a bit more than two frames to operate daily. EZE and SCL, which increased frequencies both are going to be served by A346 too mainly. UIO will also add one extra flight per week, and has to be operated by A346. No news regarding BOG.

Do you see Iberia leaving the A346 if the oil remains on the current level and using them for some short-haul-routes of its network with heavy demand?

If you try to book in Spring/Summer 2019 to JFK, it shows up as A346.

28th of May will be the last day with the A346 on the afternoon departure MAD-JFK. From the 29th on, both daily MAD-JFK will be A359.

Ah ok. I was looking for April and saw it as A346, so thought it was a seasonal replacement.

U may be right, but how long does it take to get to the airport to downtown and how much it cost?
If u compared Barajas to other airports in those points im sure Barajas is a winner.

I could see them moving TLV to 346 service.Israel-Latam is a huge business for IB so being able to get more people into a bank makes sense. Plus you can sell a better experience to customers.

Tel Aviv was recently transferred to the long-haul fleet from previous operation with the A319. Makes sense they could use some of the liberated frames from ORD and JFK to TLV. LHR may see some more A346 operations. It'll be curious to see whether Iberia decides to keep its 10x week to LIM after the peak of the summer season. Lima is one of the most important routes in South America, with heavy competence from rivals including UX, Air Plus Ultra and LATAM. I reckon they should keep the 10x week to Lima year round as they did with SCL recently, and for that the A346 would be perfect too.

Here's an idea, have you thought of booking LH to BCN with a connection in FRA? They are flying the 747-800 on the IAH route this winter, and I'd be surprised if you've been lucky enough to fly one, since you're based in Houston. Plus the added benefit of only 1 connection instead if 2.
