Worthy mentions ~

Snow on the Australian Alps, and views of Gippsland and Bass Strait. Less worthy mentions back on the ground was the touting at MEL – once on the arrival and three times on departure. As I understand it, the touting bans have or had been temporarily lifted – annoying.

But the most interesting part of my winter flights, was the receipt of an email letter a few days after the flight apologising for a delay! – this is a first, for me at least. Of course, everyone on the flight would have received one. This was on the return journey, an early afternoon flight on a weekday. Summarised - it said, we do everything we can to make your flight enjoyable and you reach your destination on time.

It then goes on to say it would have been disappointing to experience issues on this flight. Safety is our first priority and sometimes your flight needs to change and your flight was impacted by issues outside our control. It then says that options to minimise your journey with us were limited. It ended with the inclusion of the words, inconvenience, patience and understanding.

I still have the letter and am definitely keeping it. Still don’t know the reason, pilot shortage maybe? The aircraft was available, but the crew were inbound on another flight.

Four more sector flights booked for 2019, a light year of air travel – that will be a total of ten flights for 2019.

Been so busy I haven’t really minded as much this year, which is a good thing.

Forgot to say, the delay was about one hour and fifty minutes max, but the crew walking up to the gate through the throng of pax, the atmosphere was almost palpable LOL.

You keep posting that DL gives DTW the shaft and that you want airlines other than DL to increase service in DTW, or serve DTW if they don't already.

If you want people to take you seriously you should use other airlines. Giving 100% of your business to DL is the best way you can make sure nothing changes in DTW. You are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

I got another quick trip in in December this year. Worthwhile although tiring by the end, I still enjoyed the fact that I was flying once again, after a break of five months, which was not too much of an ordeal to wait for, with 2019 being very busy for me. Still no flights on the Retro Roos. Although these aircraft were Wi-Fi equipped, I couldn’t get it to work - short flights doesn’t really matter too much I guess. I would have preferred a Sky Interior anyhow.

Worthy mentions – While no affiliation here at all, I think the Bryon Bay Cookie Company is a great choice for those inflight snacks. Speaking of food, I used the Qantas Club Lounge in MEL for the first time – as a guest. Also used the ride share service Uber to and from MEL for the first time, which was very good, although the pickup area at MEL is chaotic.

One of the purposes of this trip was to see the musical Come From Away. For those not familiar it is based on ‘the plane people’ who were forced to divert to Gander, Newfoundland during 9/11. It was very good, up to expectations, along with the theatrical visit experience itself, a venue which I hadn’t been to previously.

Bushfire smoke was an issue during descent and landing to CBR, the Captain informed us of this. The Captain stood at the cockpit door to farewell his pax on disembarkation, haven’t seen that for a while on my flights. The onward flight was delayed so maybe this gave him some time to fill also.

…back into the skies again soon for my last four flights of 2019.

The bushfire smoke continued that morning departing CBR. Incidentally, there were quite a few Victorian firefighters on the flight down the back, and there was a PA inflight acknowledging their service on the fire front of December 2019. ~ Saw the first ever landing of VH-ZNK into MEL, as a repositioning flight. ~ My hearing was greatly affected from the second flight by the time we landed, not affected on the first, therefore it was a ‘bad ears’ flight. Aside from this, my flights (both Economy) had minor delays but were very enjoyable.
