First Scheduled Jet Service to BOI was Jun 1964 UA 727-100
First Scheduled Jet Service to MSP was Jun 1961 NW DC8 stopped there, but BN started sked Jet service in May 61
First Scheduled Jet Seerfvice to BIL was Aug 1966 NW 727-100

I would have guessed that the first would have been between NYC and the West Coast.

1959
American Airlines offers first domestic jetliner flights with routes from New York to Los Angeles.
Remind me to send a thank you note to Mr. Boeing.

Haha! Like PAE is about to get its first ever scheduled jet service. :)

This is an interesting topic. Anyone have dates and types for SEA and SFO?

This was actually a Pan Am 707 wet leased by National. National flew DC-8s.

But it operated as a National Airlines flights, and was the first ever domestic jet service in the US. PA could only operate International flights as Pan Am flghts.

I’m well aware of that. What I stated is correct. National wet leased the airplane from Pan Am for that initial service.

Wouldn't the very first jet ops at any US airport be when BOAC began flying the Comet to NYC in October, 1958, followed a couple weeks later when Pan Am launched 707 service from NYC to ORY?

Thanks. Presumably then that also answers the question of when was the first jet service at PDX.

I would have guessed that first jet service at SEA was UA or NW.

SFO was probably TWA in March 1959.

About the NA/PA flights in December 1958: it seems the 707s weren't just turned over to National -- they continued to fly for PA too. A 707 that arrived Idlewild in the morning from Europe could do an afternoon flight to Miami.

March 1967 when PI began Boeing 727-100 jet service to/from Winston-Salem, Asheville and Roanoke.
Those flights transited ATL and LGA where other airlines had previously established jet service.
watch what you want. you may get it.

The first scheduled jet flights at SAN Lindbergh Field were in 1960, with American Airlines flying to Phoenix and United Airlines to San Francisco, using the Boeing 720 Both started service on May 9,1960 but AA took off first.

Newark: United, 11 Sept 1961
La Guardia: AA-UA, 1 June 1964
Stewart: AA, April 1990

Oakland's 10000-ft runway opened in 1962 and I think TWA started a 707 almost immediately, but it didn't last too long and OAK may have been jetless for a little while around 1964. Any other airports started jets and couldn't keep them? (Not counting unfriendly airports like TVL.)

San Jose probably 1966 -- don't recall whether PSA or Pacific was first.

SJC's first airline jets were Pacific Air Lines Boeing 727–100 nonstops to LAX earlier in 1966 with the air carrier also operating 727 nonstops to Las Vegas.

Must have been wrong about Oakland -- Airport Activity Stats only shows 7 TWA jet departures in 1962, so presumably they weren't scheduled.

Sacramento and Reno both 1964. Surprised to see White Plains got Mohawk BACs in 1965; Islip didn't get them until 1969.
