4) B6 inaugural Long Beach - Steam Boat
5) CX LAX-HKG in the 773 in F
6) Air North, Vancouver-White Horse in a 737 (forget whcih model). (Bucket list airline)
7) Air Malta LHR-MLA in an A320. (Bucket list airline)

Definitely Izhavia’s YAK-42 flying me from LED to IJK. That thing is a spaceship compared to modern airliners.

The Yak 42 is awesome - love the BuzzSaw noise!

The wins for me:

1. Budapest to Astana. Yes it was WizzAir, yes it was an A320, but it cost under £35 and that value is definitely memorable.
2. Tashkent to Navoi. One of the very last scheduled Il-114 flights with Uzbekistan Airways.
3. Mumbai to Hyderabad. Taking one of Air India's remaining 747-400s on this rare domestic leg, with the perfect wing/engine view.
4. Kathmandu to Kathmandu. Everest sightseeing flight with Simrek Air on the Beech 1900C.
5. Minsk to Minsk. Enthusiast's flight on a venerable almost 50 year old An-12 with Ruby Star.
6. Starinki to Starinki (Belarus). Enthusiast's flight on a Kamov Ka-26.
7. Minsk to Zaporozhye. Flying Motor Sich Airline's An-74 in scheduled pax. service.

Nothing as unusual as PlymSpotter but here goes...

1. Qantas 9 - the first nonstop flight from the UK to Australia. LHR PER MEL. ..as soon as it was announced I wanted to get on the first flight, the day the flight opened for bookings a few years later it was booked. I took a 90 year old book written by Charles Kingsford Smith with me, which originally used to belong to one of his ANA engineers, and it had travelled on the first Concorde to fly around the world (signed by the crew), I was lucky to get the Captain of QF9 to sign it for me on arrival in Perth. So a bit more history added to it's story.

2. Icelandair B757 LHR KEF - my first flight on Icelandair and first B757.

3. Icelandair B767 KEF LHR - clocked a 767 for the return

4. BA 767 LHR-MAD. ..nothing special as I've flown this route on the BA456 with a B767 many times before. The trip in late October however was my 28th and last BA 767 flight. Goodbye to an old friend.

5. By contrast in July I flew MAD LHR on the Iberia A350 just 5 days into her operational life.

6. FRA SZG FRA on a pair of Austrian E190s, new destination and aircraft/airline combination, nice scenic route too.

1. Norlandair Twin Otter Akureyri to Grimsey and return. The particular aircraft I flew on was 43 years old.

2. Icelandair 757-200 Keflavik to Oslo. First and likely only 757 flight. I was mesmerised by the winter landscape over Norway. I basically had my face stuck to the window from crossing the coast near Bergen to touching down in Oslo. Bonus that I ended up on an Icelandair original 757 with an 08 customer code.

3. Qantas 787-9 London to Perth. Flying on the longest 787 flight and only Australia/UK nonstop flight. Even ended up with a spare seat next to me. We did the trip in 15 hours 41 minutes over an hour shorter than the published flight time of 16 hours 50 minutes.

Others that don't quite qualify.

- Disembarking a Qantas A380 through a remote stand at LHR
- Flying on an Icelandair 767. A type that is starting to become rare in my region.
- Logging an A318 (Air France) and 737-600 (SAS)

Had the aisle seat open on my ATL-EZE flight. Was already excited for the longest flight I've ever been on, and this essentially turned my seat into a Y+ seat.

1. SAS Oslo-Longyearbyen in September: flight departed around 10p when it was dark in Southern Norway and soon after we had the most spectacular northern lights before there was a sunrise around 11.30p approaching the waters north of mainland Norway.

2. Aeroflot Moscow Sheremetyevo-Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsiky and vice versa

Flying above Kamchatka and the final approach into PKC is definitely some of the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen on a flight. The return flight had some great views of the frozen Siberian landscape.

3. Air Canada Vancouver to Frankfurt

Absolutley loved the take-off from Vancouver and the ascend over the Rockies (the inboundAC DEN-VYR was good too).

4. Icelandair Keflavik-Denver in May where Greenland was scenic but unfortunately otherwise the flight dragged for a long time.

5. Ethiopian Airlines Addis Ababa-Dar es Salaam-Comoros

Scenic views of the Ethiopian highland, the Kenyan coast and Zanzibar, a stop at Dar es Salaam and an empty old 767 what more could I ask for

Cathay Pacific First from HKG-JFK. My wife's first time on CX and the first time I'd flown them in a few years.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1399563

Other memorable notables...and not for all the right reasons:
-Hanging out in the 747 cockpit with the Captain and SFO for about 30mins whilst our LHR-JFK was delayed.
-Sharing the FC cabin on an AA flight with Priyanka Chopra and her male "companion". Had no idea who she was until after the flight but what a complete ass she was...

Only 3 of them are worth to be mentioned (in order):

1) Air France Inaugural CDG-NBO on AF's first 789. Trip report is available here: viewtopic.php?t=1391905 .

2) Kenya Airways NBO - LVI - CPT, last year I flew the same route but could only make photos when over the splendid Victoria Falls (viewtopic.php?t=1382395). This year I asked the crew if they would intend to fly over the Falls, and indeed KQ crew granted us this awesome moment. Hence this time, I've managed to record a 4K video of the "Smoke that thunders" (to be uploaded soon of YT). Thank you again KQ.

3) Not the flight per see, but rather the pre flight. I had a KQ to KQ transfer involving an obvious landside exit at ADD. Wonderful ET/ADD staff allowed me to do an airside transit (skipping the hefty usd 50 single entry visa) , while they took care of my luggage to be checked-in to the final destination. While flying Y, I could use the nice ET Cloud 9 lounge and officially checked-in and got BPs at the boarding gate like a normal pax. Happy days

A few flights stand out for me this year:

Departing out of a bone rattling runway at Polyarny on a Tu-154 for a 5 hour flight

Being upfront on a Skydiving Skyvan, where on the descent the vertical speed indicator was maxxed out

Doing an extremely short and steep takeoff in an AN-28

Flying around the beautiful Western Isles and Hebrides on an Islander and Twotter.

On a more general note I had a fantastic trip early in the year where I travelled around a lot of Central Asia, combining flying, good food and beer, culture and some amazing sightseeing. In total 10 new countries visited and I'm only missing 1 out of the 15 recognised former USSR countries :)

First time in this kind of thread...

QR A359 Q-suite BKK-DOH there were 8 of us in business and 20 in economy
Same on the following 351 to LHR - about 12 and 30
Got a photo with the whole economy crew in the galley

One Friday night left: ISU-DOH-LHR in economy then straight on to CX LHR-HKG-BNE premium. And they checked the bags all the way through because I didn’t want to have to go out and in again at Heathrow. my colleague was adamant they wouldn’t arrive but they did- was off the plane and in taxi with bag about 18mins after pullin up for eye gatebin BNE. Impressive. Company refused business Doha East to get to Oz so I went back LHR and continued. Showers in lounges saved my life and felt fresh each flight- First lounge in HKG is great. 48h continuous travelling and felt fine when got to Brisbane.

43000ft in an A359 LHR to HEL last Saturday was pretty cool

Nothing too exciting for me.

Hmm.
Had a very bumpy flight from PEK to FNJ, but to say it was a good flight would be an overstatement. First time on a Tupolev.

Probably in this order:
1. China Eastern PEK->PVG. Best business class seat & service for a short haul flight I've ever had.
2. Air Koryo FNJ-FNJ - sightseeing flight on Mil-6 helicopter. Caught in thunderstorm and most ludicrous fit out on the inside, so a proper adventure.
3. Hainan Airlines SZX-PEK. Chinese Airlines do domestic business class really well. I flew Hainan (and China Eastern) long haul as well, but the best seats and service seem to be reserved for the domestic market!

1) Condon Business ANC-FAI-FRA "day" light during the entire trip although it was a night flight due to the northerly route
2) Flying onto Denali base camp
3) Praslin to Mahe

of course the only correct answer is I loved all my flights

I have a soft spot for widebodies on short routes so AY A359 on HEL-LHR (J) was a clear winner in 2018.

The >6h flights HEL-LPA-HEL on AY A321ER was expected to be the worst ones but wasn't that bad actually... With a better legroom seat in front and a free seat next to me. Nice crews.

I had a lot of very great flights this past year, so here are my favourites in chronological order:

- RNO-LVK on an Embraer Phenom 100 thanks to a JetSuite SuiteDeal
- Zero-G flight from HOU on my first 727-200
- Flight on a Sabreliner in St. Louis with a small group of other enthusiasts
- Flight on a Shorts Sherpa (330) with the same group in Arizona
- YUL-YGL-YUL on Air Inuit for my first 737-200
- First hot air balloon in Phoenix
- Goldtimer Lisunov Li-2 in Budapest
- MAD-SCU-HAV on Cubana's IL-96 after one prior failed attempt
- LBG-LTN on a Learjet 40 thanks to a trial membership in JetSmarter
- Flight on a private 727-100 with an enthusiast group

The absolute best were the IL-96, Zero-G 727, and 737-200. Can't believe all this happened in a year! I should have a few good flights in 2019, but I don't think it will come close to 2018.

Highlights of my year.
YEG-YZF om my first 737-200C (and first combi) with Canadian North and subsequent tour of Buffalo Airways.
My first 764 flight EWR-ZRH on UA. I was hungover after a heavy night before on Thunderball whisky in YYZ.
5x MD88 flights with DL and 5 new regos. I always LOVE the MDs.
My first 320 NEO ARN-LHR on SK. So quiet
TG 359 BRU-BKK. Business class. Just a chill flight.
UA 789 LAX-LHR I enjoyed the Cherry Liquor and Sundaes. Excellent crew.
KGL-BJM-ADD Business class. Was a cool thunderstorm with lightning the whole flight.

SQ MUC-SIN in J on the A359. Hadn't flown SQ J for a couple of years and I was lucky I got a bulkhead seat given I did a miles upgrade at check in (due to a broken leg).

My top flight of 2018 has to be SQ MEL-SIN, although the return leg was not so great, as I got bumped due to overbooking TWICE in the one night, therefore spending an extra 4 hours at Singapore Airport. Now I know that SIN is a great airport, but being a bit homesick and lugging around a large musical instrument doesn’t make it any good.

Second best is a follow-on from the nightmare SIN-MEL flight, MEL- HBA on QF 737-838 with the new livery and new interior AND being able to have a look in the cockpit after the flight.

The WORST flight was onboard AirAsia PEN (Penang)-BKI (Kota Kinabalu), in which I was stuck with not one, but THREE screaming children around me.

My best flight of 2018 was by far MAD-HAV on Cubana Ilyushin 96. Boarding and unboarding this plane by stairs is just crazy.
I could also list:

2. Air Transat A310 YUL-BOD, my first (and probably last) flight on the type.

3. Delta MD88 ATL-YYZ, an other new entry for me (yes, never flew the MD80 before 2018). The crew was just amazing and offered to take picture of me in the cockpit from outside the plane (my favorite picture of the year).

My best flight last year was probably Silver Airways from Key West to Fort Lauderdale on the Saab 340. First time on the Saab 340, late afternoon departure with the sun setting, clear day flying up past the Keys and then over the Everglades with beautiful views, touched down and got to the gate with a little bit of daylight left and a bright orange sunset. I then continued on to MCO in another Saab before boarding my final flight of the day up to YYZ on Westjet. I really enjoyed the Saab, the sound and vibration was like music to my ears and I found it quite comfortable and more spacious then I imagined.

A close second was Aegean Air from Heraklion to Athens on an A321, short flight but beautiful views of some of the Greek Islands.

LAS-ICN on Delta's A359 in Suites - Extra Section for CES.
FRA-SVO on Aeroflot - Flew to Moscow for the World Cup.
HKG-SEA on Delta in Delta One - Flew it before the route was discontinued.
LAX-ICN on Korean's A380 - First time, finally, on the A380
MNL-NRT-YVR on Japan Airlines' 767/787 in Business - First time on JAL
BFI-SEA on a 737-900ER - Got to fly on a delivery flight...5 total people on board including the pilots. Amazing experience!!

Sorry I only come back to you now. No, ET definitely did not have 5th freedom rights which is why it was such a great flight :D Both ways I would say the load factor was around fifty passengers between DAR and HAH. Both the Comoros and Tanzania could in my mind use reliable ET service for the development of relations.

Best flights from Check in to landing.
1 IAH - AKL Sky couch On NZ.
2. AKL - SFO - this was in a middle seat in economy, it was still great flight.
3. MEL - AKL QF
4. IAH - DOH QR
5. AUS - IAH - only cause the UA manager on duty, put me on earlier flight without me asking, plus UA was having IT issues at AUS that day. She worked hard to make sure i was on a earlier flight.
Other than that no other domestic flights made my favorite list even though i flew Virgin Australia, United, and AA. all was okay or typical a flight.

D7 KUL-OOL - Paid a few bucks extra for a seat in the quiet zone up front... most people hadn’t so my partner and I each had 3 seats to ourselves.

MU BKK-NKG - Although an hour late, upgauged from a 320 to a 321, all of a sudden the seats we reserved months before were now in an exit row.

DI SEA-LGW - The friendliest flight crew in recent memory, and some empty seats around to spread out.

AA LAX-PDX - A nearly empty E175 with the best flight attendant. Also an hour late, but a great final flight of a 26-flight vacation.

LH MEX-FRA I asked a FA if I could land in the cockpit and she went and ask the captain if I could, she came later and said yes, so upfront I went for about 30-45 mins before touch down all the way to the terminal , it was a 747-400. this was in 1985 I Think ,the captain even gave me a headset to listen to evrerything was being said between him and the tower or air traffic controlers. just mind blowing to me.

I once was on a EY flight between AUH and PEK that was delayed and that made for the most stunning crossing of the Karakoram

Never crossed the Himalayas but flew along them on AI KTM-DEL which was spectacular enough.

Top 3:

1. SN SSJ100 BMA - BRU - a lovely calm summer's evening with crystal clear skies over Europe. The first (and probably only) time I flew on an SSJ
2. SQ A350-900 SIN - MUC - just the most comfortable business class flight I've ever been on
3. WN 737 Max 8 FLL - MDW - genuine party atmosphere onboard and it was snowing as we landed in Chicago
