DL MD88 & MD90

Mon Jan 07, 2019 9:31 pm

MODS---Please move this post if its in the wrong section.

For you Aviation geeks, im sure you have some sort of plane/airport/lounge/seat bucket list.

Im trying to scratch mine off for the MD88/90 and was curious to see where DL flies their MD's? I want to fly on one before they retire them. Do they have a set route or do they fly to random airports? Im also based out of SFO, so i never see them here. If it means flying to STL, SLC, ATL...i'll do it lol

You can definitely still find them in the Midwest doing routes like MSP-ORD, MSP-MKE, MKE-DTW, etc. I believe the 88's are all ATL-based, and go to places like ORD, STL, IND, TUL among several others.

You probably want to plan to fly through either MSP or ATL.

You can track commercial flights by aircraft type on flightaware. Simply pick the type of aircraft you are interested in to see where they are flying. You would have to ignore the non Delta flights.

Or you can see all Delta flights, and ignore all non MD-xx flights.

If you want to fly the 717 too you can do ORD-ATL-ORD. The route is mostly MD88s and 717s. Occasionally they will fly the MD90. MD90's are more common out of MSP though.

DL flies MD-88s between ICT and ATL 3 times per day. Also, AA flies MD-83s twice a day between ICT and DFW.

BUF-ATL-BUF is almost entirely MD-88, with the occasional MD-90 and 717 popping up.

DL currently has four or five daily MD90's IAH-ATL flights while HOU-ATL has two a day.
