On-line check in for code share flight

Hi Everyone,

I've booked my summer vacation flights, yeah! Travelling to Spain for just under 3 weeks.

I booked my flights through the Lufthansa website and the first flight from YYZ-MAD is on Air Canada and my first flight on a 787. I picked the "light fare" option as the next level up was thousands of dollars more expensive. I don't have the option to pre-select my seats (I would have been happy to pay for that option) so I'm hoping to check in 24hrs in advance to get the seats we like. Does anyone know if my LH booking code will allow me to check-in and pre-select my seats 24 hrs in advance with Air Canada, or do I need to check in at the airport to get my seats assigned?

I've scoured the LH website and can't seem to find an answer there.

I booked a BA itinerary as an AY codeshare. I downloaded the BA app and entered my confirmation number so I could manage the trip from there. I could check in for the flight on the BA app as well. I would think you could check in for the entire itinerary through LH but if you want to play it safe (and maybe find a way to reserve seats) I would find your flight through AC.

I have done the same with a Miles&More reward flight booked through LH and operated by AC. What you need to do is:
- Contact Lufthansa and ask for the Air Canada booking reference (PNR). This will be a different 6 letter/digit code to the one used by LH
- Use this booking reference to manage your booking on the AC website
- Also, if you ring up AC with this code, they will let you book seats in advance for a fee, but they don't let you do this on the website if the booking was not made with them

As an update, based on LCY55Approach's advice I called and got the AC reservation code. With that I was able to book the seats via the AC website.

Thanks again!

When I booked a BA codeshare through QR there was a BA booking number attached to the E-Ticket so I could select seats through the BA website. Turned out that due to strikes the BA flight was cancelled a few weeks out and I was moved over to a QR operated service. Unfortunately, BA refused to refund the extortionate seat selection fee charged for a service that didn’t even operate...
