Intra Europe 5th freedom & W/B flying?

Mon Feb 25, 2019 2:38 pm

Hi folks,

Reviving an ever interesting and much discussed topic here...
I know it's been discussed before, but now with the approaching new Spring 2019 season I was wondering what are the chances of catching some interesting 5th freedom and/or wide-body flights intra-Europe in the coming months...
Thanks to everyone in advance for the updates.

rgds,
oldanny

In the summer for LHR-DME BA will switch its 321s on BA233 for the 226-seat 772 (F14, J48, W40, M124) on Saturdays and Sundays and the 216-seat 789 (F8, J42, W39, M127) on the other days.

It's true. The changes of catching a widebody intraeurope are pretty slim.

It's always been like that, compared to say, the US or Japan. A different market I suppose, maybe someone can provide a more detailed explanation..

Aside from the routes already mentioned, TK has been flying routinely 330s and 777s to various European hubs (not only the larger ones)..
Good luck..

Regards..

Well, things were really quite dramatically different back in the '70s, '80s and even a good part of the '90s.. There were TONS of w/b flights throughout Europe, especially out of the usual hubs like LHR/CDG/ORY/FRA/MAD/FCO/ATH/LIN... You could have flown all the way from London on a BA L10 from LHR to CDG, switch to ORY for one of many daily IB A300s to MAD, then onto another A300 (two a day) on AZ to FCO, then OA to ATH on the A300 (all OA flights at one point!); then on to LIN on the A300 again (ok, summers only!), then you could pick an A310 to AMS (KL) or FRA (LH) on most of their daily flights...

Not to mention 5th freedoms, tag-ons, and stop-overs.... there were so many of these.....
It was heaven. So many different big jets of so many different airlines...

Last year LOT used a 787-8 on WAW-LHR around Easter, not sure if they're repeating that this year.

Spanish airline Air Europe operates widebodies between Madrid and Amsterdam. A few weeks ago I logged the Boeing 787-9 and the Airbus A330-200 between the two capitals. The first on Saturday towards Madrid, the second on Sunday returning to Amsterdam.

Isn't there a yearly EU-widebody thread already?
