Wow they aren't serving Hawaii from east coast. Its "unavailable" on their low-fare calendar. I was wondering how they were going to do it since for most east coast airports, it would require a 3-stop flight. Which is BONKKK.

Nice $79 ow OAK-KOA via HNL for Tue.Wed in May. Almost just got for only shade under 4000 points.
Riddle: Which lasts longer, a start-up airline or a start-up football league?

The other carriers won’t be lowering their fares since there is no such thing as the Southwest effect, right?

With all these low fares, This is going to hurt HI and all the other big carriers big time. HI even more so.

Booked the inaugural OAK-HNL on 3/17 for like 5000 points...so that's cool.

But yes, $49 fares are amazing! Even seeing inter-island for as low as $39.

It sure isn't going to help WN either.. These are just introductory fares and wont be the norm

Looks like WAS is getting left out. Nothing from DCA or IAD. They can get you there from BWI but don't seem to have return trips.

Oh well. Can't be all things to all people.

So, wnflyguy was correct. Start 2 weeks after going on sale. Start in March. Start at $50.

I think quite a few people owe him an apology.

Looks like the rumor about 3/17 starting service was correct after all. Not surprised at all by the fares. Their fares are in buckets and their WGA prices are always low. Most people won't pay those low prices.

1. It’s hard to believe someone when they post so many rumors.

2. I doubt more than a few people openly told him he was wrong.

Because they need to fill up those planes on short notice, and it generates good publicity. Fares aren't going to stay that low.

he also claimed they were starting off with all 4 cities and 11 daily flights, which is clearly not happening. SJC doesn't start until May. No word yet on when SAN and SMF starts.

I saw that too and some flights are connecting through SJC. Why wouldn't WN have direct flights from SAN I wonder.

Wait, I am sure they will announce SAN sometime this week/month. SAN is on their Hawaii-specific website link and it does only show connecting flights but I would assume that they will add the nonstops sometime soon.

I booked a couple of placeholder flights from DAL to OGG. I didn't try HNL though.

Why are people amazed that flights aren't available from the east? Hasn't it been debated af nauseum that connections from central/east US wouldn't work to how WN schedules (no redeye, etc)? Should be no sueprise....

From STL, you can book departures to OGG from $133 one way (starting April 10), but no returns available.

On STL-HNL, flights are available starting April 8 (lowest fare that month also $133), but no returns available, except for one oddball April 7 flight (before departures start) for $252.

No KOA available.

All according to their Low Fare Calendar.

Are there any other airlines flying OAK to any islands in Hawaii? Are they competing with UA out of SFO who are charging $200 plus for a one way SFO KOA ticket?

Southwest has no change fees, so you can book a connecting flight then if the SAN schedules are announced in time, change to the nonstop.

Too bad you can't book them if you're from most countries that aren't America. Could make Hawaii more accessible to Europeans.

Now that many of the cheaper fares are sold out, a flight from Dallas to Maui is running about $800 a person, connecting through Oakland or San Jose. A nonstop flight on American runs about $1000 a person. Not sure this will be much of a savings for people outside of California, unless you have a companion pass (which I do, so it's worth it for me).

You can if you're using a proxy or VPN based in the USA.

I agree it would be great. You could fly Norwegian to Oakland and then self-connect to Southwest taking you to Hawaii. I know Norwegian moved their Gatwick flight from Oakland to San Francisco, but they continue to fly to Oakland from several other European airports. In this case Oakland is the preferred airport over San Francisco.
