Friendly contest: The longest "milk run" across mainland US

Fri Mar 08, 2019 3:28 am

I'd like to propose a friendly contest.

Develop an itinerary with actual flight numbers from west coast US, i.e. SEA, PDX, SFO/OAK/SJC, LAX, SAN to the US northeast, i.e. BOS, JFK/LGA/EWR, PHL, BWI, DCA/IAD (NOT ATL, RDU, CLT, MCO, MIA, etc.) with the most legs and longest flight time within one 24 hour period. It can be on more than one airline. However, there needs to be legal connection time if switching airlines (or, even if within same airline). Also, the itinerary needs to be "purchasable", meaning that one could purchase the itinerary if they wished. Finally, the contest ends by 9:00pm PST on Sunday, March 10th.

There are no prizes. Just the satisfaction of winning.

Begin? Have fun with it. Please....I don't want any ugly competitiveness to transpire. If it begins, I'll take down the thread.

I'll start it off...
Beginning on Monday, April 15 at 12:08 Pacific time (15:08 Eastern time)

UA 5443 SEA-LAX 12:08-15:01
UA 460 LAX-SFO 15:45-17:14
UA 5374 SFO-SLC 19:25-22:16
DL 2907 SLC-ATL 23:54-05:30
DL 379 ATL-MCO 06:55-08:21
AA 1899 MCO-PHL 09:01-11:29
AA 2185 PHL-BOS 12:45-14:08

So the total itinerary is exactly 23 hours start to finish. 7 segments. 15 hours 6 minutes of flight time. I can probably do better...
Is the 40 minute connection at MCO legal?

I feel the milk run needs more parameters.
1) Do we assume Alaksa/Hawaii are out of the equation?
2) Is this limited to USA? In other words peeps should probably shoot for Bangor, Maine if the Canadian Maritime provinces are off limits
3) Is overflying allowed- refer to above SEA-LAX then back up to SFO?

Assuming we're talking about maximum time in the air:

F9 170 15JUL DENPHL 1240A 617A
NK 877 15JUL PHLATL 650A 904A
DL 95 15JUL ATLDTW 947A 1140A
DL 3849 15JUL DTWTVC 1210P 121P
AA 3107 15JUL TVCORD 224P 246P
DL 2560 15JUL ORDMSP 325P 500P
DL 2819 15JUL MSPSLC 535P 724P
AA 1386 15JUL SLCPHX 810P 852P
AA 820 15JUL PHXLAX 805P 923P
AA 6020 15JUL LAXSFO 1045P 1154P

If it's a true milk run, then replace my DENPHL with AA4533 BGRPHL 530A - 720A.
