Largest operators of the 737-8max

Sun Mar 10, 2019 9:20 pm

I was just looking to see who has the largest fleet of 737-8max aircraft. Most of the orders are by unidentified operators-over 1000 of them. Would this typically be frames that will be leased?

AC will be seriously affected by a MAX grounding with 24 active MAX-8s out of total NB fleet of only 116 and big news today in Canada as there were 18 Canadian killed today in the crash.

Is that a commuter flight to remote regions I guess? May I have a news link to see? Thank you for your help.

It wasn't a commuter flight, but many people use ET to connect across africa.

It is not a large fleet, but Air Italy has 3 out of 9 narrow bodies in its fleet, so that is a very high proportion!

Norwegian (DY) who is treading on thin ice currently operates 20 MAXs. It would be a major blow to ground them at the beginning of the high season.

Yes, but I believe they still have a lot of Boeing 738NG's

Yes but do they have 20 NGs sitting around ready to take up the flights that are operated by the MAXs?
And if a global grounding occurs there will be a global scramble to lease (most likely) 737 NGs by affected airlines. Are there really 350 737 NGs available at this time of the year?

Should India’s DGCA issue an order to stop 737 MAX operations, SpiceJet (SG) will be badly affected as it will lose 13 frames out of 76 overnight, as mentioned in the Indian thread (and also the China grounding thread). 13/76 is nearly one-sixth the fleet, which is quite sizeable.
In grieving remembrance of the thousands of people who lost their lives on ET-AVJ, PK-LQP, XA-UHZ, S2-AGU, CP-2933, SU-GCC, EI-ETJ, D-AIPX, PK-AXC, 9M-MRD, VT-AXV and above all 9M-MRO, besides many more. Your deaths are not in vain. Safety first, always.

SpiceJet could conceivably replace them easily with all the aircraft Jet Airways is grounding. ;)

The MAX8 makes up a fair chunk of LOTs bigger narrow body fleet. They're not adverse to wet leasing though.

Was the ET one from ALC or GECAS?

And which airlines are the other leased birds placed with? FJ has at least one.

FI currently has 5 -8s and a single -9, with two more -9s in final testing at PAE. Out of a total fleet of less than 40 aircraft that’s a sizeable proportion of the fleet.
Nothing compares to taking off in an empty 757 with full thrust!

MN, Comair; has just had one delivered. Not sure if it is leased.
