2010. DL MCO-LGA. Excellent flight. My wife and I sat in the "two" side, towards the front. Great service, quite flight.

Two weeks ago... CLE-DFW and the return a couple days later DFW-CLE. On the way down I sat up front and though dated, it was nice, comfortable and quiet. On the return flight I sat in the exit row on the two-seat side. Also a comfortable seat, though it was a bit louder back there of course. I am very curious how these old birds will compare to the A220 which I will be flying on in August between SLC and DFW.

They will probably be better. Or more comfortable at the very least.

Summer 2011 or 2012 KRN-ARN Scandinavian Airlines. First and most probably only time, and disembarking through the rear stairs which was somewhat cool, and somewhat annoying (for once I had a seat up front). Funny thing is I think they were based at CPH at the time. I flew that route quite a few times those years, and it was always a 737 with this one odd exception.

Worn, dated but quiet since Mr Pratt and Mr Whitney were at the other end.

Well I just finished another day of riding md-88s on Delta. Had two window seats just forward of the wing and both flights were nice. The last flight surprised me as we were flying through the storm system over the southeast but just a bit of light chop. The Ole girl handled it in stride and was smooth and quiter than expected. Of course the real treat was a rare rwy 27 landing in mem. Haven't had one of those in probably 15 years.

I've been on 20 MD-90s, 1 MD-88, and 1 MD-80. Last MD-80 was on AA way back in 2006 on SNA-SJC back when SJC was still a 'hub'. MD-88 was in 2010 from SLC-GEG. All the MD-90 flights were in/out of SLC, back when they still had them hubbed there.

For me, DL MD-88, ATL->IND, around 2015 or so.

I certainly missed those days where every single intra-Texas flight on AA is a Mad Dogs. All those IAH-DFW, SAT-DFW, and AUS-DFW flights that I flew on back when I still live in Texas brings back memory.

My last MD-80 flight was on DL from MCO-LGA three years ago. I took an earlier flight for a $50 change fee so I could get home earlier. I thought I was lucky to be on the MD-88 instead of the usual 737 I fly on. I was toward the front of the cabin but I didn't notice it was much quieter than the 737. I did think it was a more comfortable ride than the 737. I will be sorry to see them leave the DL fleet. I hope I get a chance to fly on one before they retire. I guess I will have to be on a connecting flight thru Atlanta.

Strangely enough Delta's MD-80s seem to be 3-2 config. Not normal right? I'm assuming that the plane is still comfortable for those that flew Delta's.

Last flight was DL MD-88, 2016: BWI->ATL. Then had a layover to a B757 ATL->LAX, another layover to yet another 757 into KOA. Then flew a 757 back from KOA to LAX, LAX to ATL, and a 739 to BWI. Gonna miss the Mad Dog. Hopefully getting on a Mad Dog or Angry puppy in June.

Are you talking about how DL's MD-80 has 3 seats on port (left) side and 2 seats on starboard (right) side? While weird (Since most MD-80s, and also DL's MD-90 and B717 has 2 on port and 3 on starboard), it makes no difference in comfort.

I did a quick google search for MD-80 cabin pictures, seems like OS (Austrian) and IB (Iberia) former MD-80s are like that also (i.e. 3-2 instead of 2-3). SK (SAS) (and AA), however, is in the more "standard" 2-3 config.

August 2018 on ATL-MIA on DL, MD-88 to be particular. Loved it - nice and loud aircraft, auto-reclining seats on take off was a strange feeling!

My last MD 88 flight was in February 2016. I'm a teacher in New York, so every break I take a trip out to explore. For mid-winter break I went to Orlando for the theme parks and flew in the MD 88. It was ok, but I'm glad that Delta is phasing them out and replacing them with A321s. The engines were louuuuud. I remember thinking they probably will keep them around for sometime, but as fuel prices have risen they've started replacing them. For a period of about 3 years most flights out of both JFK and LaGuardia to Florida were all MD's, but now they're mostly Airbus.

Were they really that loud? I don't recall it being too bad on my flight... then again, it was an 82/83.

It was crazy loud haha.... I was seated towards the back. Overall, it was a good flight. Newer planes have really spoiled us. I can't imagine ever wanting to fly an older plane like that. If you wanna chat about trips and stuff, dm me!

Sorry, but I love the MDs. So sad that they're being phased out.

August 2015, AA DFW-FAT, our first and probably last ride up front. Not particularly quiet, seats were reasonably comfortable but had definitely seen better days.

Mine was MSP-STL on DL in 2014. I don't recall anything special about the flight. DL doesn't bring the MD80 to MSP anymore. I think they pretty much just stick to ATL routes these days. Tomorrow I'm flying the same route but on a 717.

Yeah. Lots of MD88s/MD90s arriving at BWI from ATL. That's about it.

My last MD-80 flight was on American's last MD-82, N501AA. It was AA1478 from DFW-RDU on March 24, 2019. It was so super fun! Loud engine noise. Should've maybe gone a few rows farther back, as I was in 26F, but I got to visit the old analog-style cockpit. It was beautiful.

Mine was ATL-RDU (obviously DL MD88), in April 2019.
Second last row, between the engines. had abut 100DB on my sound app on phone.

My last MD80 flight was actually as Captain from Atlanta to Laguardia back in 2012, and well, it was a pretty normal day for me, except more special as it was my last flight on what was my favorite aircraft for much of my life as I was going to be transitioning to the 7ER after that. Will say that it was a truly amazing airplane to fly, far more spacious and ergonomic than the 737, great performance, and up in the cockpit, it was truly the quietest aircraft that I had ever flown until the A330. I remember we hit some minor turbulence on departure from Atlanta, but it was a pretty smooth flight after that, and quite a beautiful one too, cruising at FL330 while watching the sunset. I haven't on it flown it since, though I have flown on 2 90s and a 717.

Yesterday I flew on an AA MD-80 from Milwaukee to Dallas, just so I could fly on an AA MD-80 before they're gone. For some reason, I was given Platinum Pro status for 3 months, so I was upgraded to first class. Apparently, the plane hadn't been cleaned after the inbound flight, because there were used napkins stuck to the safety card sticking out of the seatback pocket. When I pulled out my tray table and folded it over to use the half-table, there was a big spot of grease on it as if someone with greasy hair had been resting their head on it. And my window was greasy. Also, the ceiling over the seats on my side of the plane was dirty. On the plus side, the service from the flight attendants was great. Tomorrow I'll fly on another AA MD-80 from DFW to St. Louis. I hope it will be better.

Mine was back in October 2015 from ATL to BDL on Delta . As to how it was, it was a typical commercial flight. Though I always have liked the two seat side. Nice planes.

So, you were hired in...1999ish...flew as a Second O on the the L1011 and 727, you were on the ER and now you are a Captain on the A330?

I have never, ever, ever, ever heard a Delta, Northwest, Continental, Allegiant, Republic (old), American, USAirways, Midway, TWA, Ozark, PSA (old) or any other DC9 or MD80 pilot call the airplane “amazing”.

What flying school did you go to?

I didn't fly the 727 or L1011, though I do wish that I did. If you want, I can provide a full breakdown of my flying career from my first introduction flight on a piston plane to my most recent trip, since you seem to be very interested in me because I accidentally clicked 5 instead of 9 on my keyboard

Early June this year. DL MD-88 ATL-SDF. Purposefully sat near the back to take in that sound. I enjoyed it because I knew my days of flying MD-88s and -90s are nearing an end. That was one reason I chose that routing to SDF from MCI.

November 3, 2018 - AA1556 DFW-IAD on N962TW. Sitting in my favorite seat; 3F. I'd been commuting for work between IAD and DFW every other week for almost 3 years, and that was my last trip before changing jobs, so I got to fly on a decent number of AA's remaining MD-80s at the time. I will miss the birds when they're gone.

You’ve continued to evade my question and my PM’s. You’ve stated over and over again that you are a “Junior Captain” on the A330(A) in NYC with a “1999” DOE. There are NO pilots that JUNIOR in the A330(A) bid category at any one of the A330 bases.

So, I am confused, yes. Very. Please enlighten me as to who you are.
