Delta Airlines January 24, 2000

Tue Apr 16, 2019 1:42 pm

Not sure this is the right place to ask, please move if needed.

I am trying to remember what aircraft I flew on from Phoenix to Atlanta, red-eye January 24, 2000 (might have been 23rd or 25th). My recollection was a 727. Any way to verify?

Thanks.

This isn't much help- the closest on-line schedule I can find is June 1999 which shows the DL red-eye PHX-ATL flight was DL 538, operated by a 752.

Direct KNOBS, maintain 2700' until established on the localizer, cleared ILS runway 26 left approach.

Thank you.

I found this: https://airline-memorabilia.blogspot.co ... -2000.html

Also shows 757. It's from ATL to PHX but still.

Hmm...

For the time period in question (Jan 23-25, 2000) I actually see evidence of 2 PHX-ATL redeyes on Delta. Flight 538 was scheduled to depart at 23:40 and as noted above used a 757. However, it looks like there was also a Flight 1914 with a scheduled departure time of 01:40 and that did operate with a 727.

The following link is a very useful resource for these questions:

https://www.transtats.bts.gov/ONTIME/

Do your search under "Detailed Statistics" and you'll even get the registration number of the aircraft operating a particular flight.

This is a great find. It allowed me to find out which specific aircraft I flew, on a trip from Vancouver to DC for a relative's wedding way back in the summer of 2001 (before 9/11!)

But for some reason the tail registrations came out wrong, e.g. N26xAU (737-200 for US Airways' former LCC brand Metrojet) was being rendered as "N262A", so I had to do some extra digging on Google:

7/28/2001 DL258 SEA-ATL 11:50pm-5:15am N133DL (767-300 Domestic)
7/29/2001 DL314 ATL-BWI 6:50am-8:28am N3742C (737-800)
8/7/2001 DL1179 BWI-ATL 2:34pm-4:35pm N954DN (MD-90)
8/7/2001 DL605 6:09pm-8:23pm N648DL (757-200) (still had the widget livery!)

On the ATL-BWI leg I managed to visit the cockpit and even got a pair of pilot wings from the captain

Unfortunately international flight statistics are behind a paywall which is a real shame. I have yet to find a free resource that catalogues international flights as well as the arrival/departure times and the tail registration of the operating aircraft.

Timetable for 2 Apr 2000 shows eight nonstops PHX to ATL, all 757 except the 1615 and 0030 departures were 72S. I'll see if I have a closer date.
