MH's slogan is great, but their ads aren't that memorable in my opinion. In fact, the only memorable MH ads are usually related to the Malaysian National Day celebration as opposed to a out & out ad about the brand.

Oh, I agree with you. They usually put more effort into their Hari Raya/Hari Merdeka ads. I put the slogan on there because I thought it was clever (and perhaps a slight bias ;) )

I have a "chicken vs. the egg" question. Was the 5th Dimension song "Up Up and Away" written for TWA, or was the record released first, and then TWA licensed it? I know the group "the Letterman" had a hit record based on the "Pan Am Makes the Going Great" commercial series and I wondered if it was the same with the TWA situation.

Say Hello to Pan Am.

You can debate me on this. It’s catchy and awesome.

Was not written specifically for TWA - was a hit for the 5th Dimension first

It's not just you - airline ads are all but gone in media, thanks to Expedia/Orbitz/Travelocity/etc. If you are a frequent flier, you will be loyal to that airline and that alliance because the benefits of additional miles will outweigh the extra cost. If you are looking for the cheapest deal, you probably don't care what airline gets you there, as long as it is the cheapest.

In the 1970's & 1980's, it used to be everyone could tell you the slogan that matched the airline:

American: Something special in the air
TWA: You're going to like us!
Pan Am: The world's most experienced airline
United: Fly the friendly skies
Southern: Nobody's second class at Southern
North Central: Good people make our airline great!
Continental: Work hard. Fly right
Eastern: We have to earn our wings every day
National: Fly me!
Republic: Nobody serves our republic like Republic
Hughes Air West: Top banana in the west!
Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA): Catch our smile!

I can tell you Southwest's slogans, but anybody else? Hmmm...

Delta: "Delta is ready when you are"
EA also used "The Wings of Man" as a tagline in their ads for a while

My all-time favorite ad only aired only very briefly - it was a commercial for UA and there was a 747 that was filled with water and two Orca whales were swimming through it - was meant to show the spaciousness of the cabin I suppose but I guess it was met with a lot of negative connotations about a crash into the ocean or some such.

It used to be on YouTube, but it's gone now: picture the Solid Gold dancers showing off the spaciousness of a TWA L1011 by dancing through it. Even by early 80's standards, it was wild!

Yes, I get teary eyed hearing "We're American Airlines, doing what we do best!"

I think the British Airways 'faces' is also an astonishingly good ad.

I always remember National's "Come on and Fly Me!" jingle.

Welcome to the world of Pan Am: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMfPWBev1ZU

Up, up and away--TWA! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQLyXFOBbYE

Thank God for Youtube! Commercials today very seldom make me feel anything at all one way or another.

I forgot to mention Continental's "proud bird with the golden tail" ad campaign back in the early 70's - loved both the meatball livery and the one before it. I remember when they introduced the meatball livery there was a great ad with a guy painting a model in the new livery and at the very end, he gets to the tail and the narrator says "in case you were wondering, the tail of our bird is still gold"

The Orca Whale ad is still around YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOBnfR9WHSk

What's with United and using animals to introduce their new planes? For their 777, they chose Bigfoot to advertise the jet. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_CItzp7h2Q
