Shift in DL cert u/g vs. mileage u/g

Fri Jun 07, 2019 10:53 pm

This is more of a Flyertalk post ... but I'm not active of FT these days. Just off the phone with a DL res agent asking about my wait-listed global u/gs to CDG clearing later this year, and learned the (or at least a major) reason that global cert u/gs are more difficult to confirm at time of booking is that DL is releasing fewer for cert u/gs but allowing more mileage u/gs before day of departured. Certs and miles used to be the same inventory... but no longer on the revenue management side (the fare code may appear the same to the pax, but behind the scenes...), availability has changed.

So, if you're a DM or PM on DL and wondering why it's increasingly rare to confirm a cert u/g at time of booking... your elite status is now worth less.
