Poll: Have You Flown on 737MAX?

Fri Jun 28, 2019 2:11 am

Poll:

Have you flown on 737MAX?

I have. On Southwest, from CMH to BOS in spring of 2018.

You can’t get a Silver Star for this.

Not yet, I have a flight that should originally have been a MAX booked. I am in no real hurry as they will be around for decades. Better to focus on the "classics" or something a little more rare in the meantime.

I have not. I was booking flights for September and made sure to stay away from it. Nothing against the plane, I just don't want to take the chance that if the grounding is prolonged, the flight gets cancelled.

Not yet, the closest I got so far was an Air China 737MAX standing at the next gate when I boarded my CA 737NG... So it's still missing on my list:

Jurassic-737:
PA
LH
Ryan Air

Classic-737:
AB
CO
Czech
Taca
TAROM
Anadoulu jet
Sun Express
Hapg Lloyd
TUIfly

NG-737:
CA
CZ
MU
Shenzen
Shandong Al.
Shanghai Al.
Dalia
KL
THY
El Al

737-8, formerly known as 737MAX:
coming soon...

Yes, it had almost a whole year in service at FI before the grounding took effect:

Once. I liked it, but that had much more to do with the lie-flat business class seat and the age (it was brand new), than the aircraft itself. For the aircraft, it was much nicer than a 737NG, but definitely underwhelming compared to the CFM powered A320neo. It was only slightly more silent than an A320ceo. The noise of external rushing air was very noticeable at the front of the cabin.

Disregarding the safety issues, I would not go out of my way to fly on a 737MAX. It just felt like a brand new 737NG with the sky interior. The latest KLM 737-800s are almost identical from the aspect of an economy seat. For standard 3+3 economy class, I would take almost any other type over it due to the narrower cabin/seats.

Yes, February last year FLL-MDW. Aircraft had only entered service the prior week, per one of the crew. Flight was uneventful.

I have. EI-FYF (Norwegian) on RVN-HEL last November. About as uneventful of a flight as can be imagined.

Yes, in February 2019 MIA-ATL. It was American, N302SA. Very quiet on takeoff, but no IFE, cramped seats, and tiny toilet. I was excited about the flight, however I might hesitate flying it on a long sector, I would not hesitate to fly on it during shorter flights.

Yes I have - I can't say it was any different from any other 737 flight I've been on. Perhaps a nicer cabin and windows, but that's about it.

Yes...I flew an Ethiopian Max JNB-ADD 3 days before the crash. Not the one that crashed though, think it was ET-AVK.
Was then supposed to be Max again on return leg, but obviously got changed to NG

I was scheduled to fly on WN March 14 OAK-STL. Sadly, they were grounded on the 13th so I missed out. I told the flight crew I had booked that flight to get to ride on one. They gave me a free drink to help ease my av geek pain.

Nope, almost did but it got swapped out to a regular -800.

So far I have flown on the -200, -300, -400, -500, -700, -800, and -900. Unfortunately there are no more chances to fly on the -100 and I still plan eventually to fly the MAX's along with the -600.

Not yet.....but had quite a few fly over my house and they are much more quite and soothing to hear compared to the 737NGs and 320CEOs...

I did WN PHX-STL last August-ish time frame. Loved the flight. One of my smoothest. Seemed to take turbulence better than the NG but might have just been in my head. Could tell it was quieter than the NG. I think it might have been the 10,000th 737 actually.

Yes I have.

From a passenger perspective, the only noticeable difference was the MAX being a little bit quieter than the NG. The Sky Interior was not unique as plenty of NGs have the same feature.

What did the lie flat look like? Was it comfortable, roomy? Was it 2-2 configuration? I ask only because the only single aisle bed seat I’ve flown was a 757. I don’t know how much wider a 757 is inside vs a 737. Thanks

I did, once.

It was the same crappy 737 experience we all know and love/hate* (delete as applicable). The only difference was the engines sounded a little different when they spooled up, and the winglets looked a bit different. Cabin noise was as loud as it always is. Seats were narrow as they always were. Windows as low as they always were. The same giant vagina in the ceiling as the Sky interior on the 737NG.

So not much difference really.

Was booked on an Ethiopian Max but it was swapped out for a 787 (before the crash, was almost disappointed at the time)

2-2 configuration.

The 737 and 757 share the same upper half of the fuselage, so they are the exact same width.

Yes, I flew on Norwegian's EI-FYG MAD-LGW in February of this year. Aside from a few subtle differences (wings, engine noise) I'd say it didn't feel that different than other 737 flights I've been on recently.

Once. MCO-STL last December on WN. Was a 737-800 till the morning of.

Conversely, I had booked a MAX 8 OAK-STL last October, but it was swapped with an -800

I flew SAN-IAH last summer on N37502. It literally freaked me out, because the MAX is SO quiet compared to other planes.

A lifetime in purgatory for whoever thinks that ridiculous lavatory is acceptable.

Other than that, it was a lovely and relaxing flight.

DEN-DAL. It was a very nice plane and a very nice ride. It reminded me of a 787 it was so quiet. I slept like a baby.

I wanted to. And not just on any ordinary MAX flight, but the inaugural MAX flight by Malindo Air to Singapore.

Then I looked at the fare and my jaw dropped - hugely expensive!

I flew on a Shanghai Airlines MAX from PVG-BKK last December, only a few weeks after Lion Air.

I survived, obviously. But I was definitely a little nervous.

The plane was very new, sat exit row... no real noticeable difference except the sound of the engines. And definitely quieter than the NG.

Will I avoid it for awhile once it returns to service? Yes.

Was scheduled to be on one, but WN did an equipment swap to an -800 somewhere along the line. (This was before the groundings).

I flew a MAX 8 on that exact same route in January 2019, with WN. Most memorable thing about the flight was landing during snowfall, which is always a treat.
