AA flew JFK-PHX, 2138 miles, and DFW-SJU, 2145 miles, with 727-200s in the 1980s. The westbound JFK-PHX made lots of fuel stops at ABQ.

Back in the beginning of 90's portuguese Air Columbus used to fly their 722 between Lisbon and Toronto and Lisbon to Providence via Azores (Ponta Delgada/Sao Miguel Island). During some winter weeks their arrival at US east coast or even at Canada was a lil'bit on the verge of *red line* ;)

Wardair used B727s on TATL routes back in the day.

Some 727-200 a/c had aux tanks in the cargo compartments.

This plane is built to withstand anything... except a bad pilot.

A 6,000 lb aux tank for a plane that burns 13,000 per hour didn't help much. After factoring in cost to carry, it got you about 15-20 minutes of extra endurance. And 2 aux tanks could put you into takeoff performance limitations pretty quickly.

IIRC, LAB had some long flights out of Bolivia using their 72S aircraft.

Don't forget MGM Grand Air B727-100 LAX-JFK-LAX with a special ultra-first class configuration. Also notable they operated out of Imperial Terminal in LAX.

Air Canada flew the 727-200ADV from YYZ- BGI 2424sm.
CPAir flew YUL-YVR in a 727-100 2295sm.
Wardair flew the 727-100 from YVR-HNL 2705 sm. Occasionally a stop in OAK was required.

AC did YUL-YVR non-stop regularly with the -200ADV. If memory serves, 2287 s.m. or thereabouts. Flew on them regularly. CP did the same route with a 737-200. They only had a couple of birds with aux tanks for that route; I was on a YVR-YUL flight once that had to have the long-range 737 subbed with a regular 737 due to the assigned aircraft going tech (lightning strike) and we had to stop for fuel in Winnipeg. We arrived so late that we had to divert to YMX due to the curfew at YUL. Since my day had started in Tokyo... I was pretty wiped.

Empty seats and legroom in economy!

Great to see airlines and liveries from the past at SFO!

They also ditched a 727 TATL in the 90s. Still don’t know why they ditched..

I think the longest non-stop route LH used their 727-200 Adv. on was FRA-TLV. Must be around 1830mi

I am having a hard time finding any reference to this. Do you have any further information? As far as I can see, Sterling lost no 727s.

Perhaps you are thinking of a Peruvian 727 being ferried from KEF to YQX which ditched short of YQX.

I agree longhauler, if I remember correctly the Peruvian 727 OB-1303 had been on lease to Air Malta and operated in full colours. I've got some pictures of it at LHR.

Yemenia used to operate the 727s from Sanaa to LGW in the late 80s. I can't remember the stopovers now though.

Ariana Afghan also used to send them to Gatwick late 60s. Flight 701 crashed at LGW 7th January 1969. Kabul-Kandahar-Istanbul-Frankfurt -London

I also recall seeing Iraqi Airways 727s from Baghdad at LHR during the 80s

UA had them on BOS-DEN sometimes in the late 90s which I thought was long for a 727

Actually I was talking about TX-PR 727 ops on a thread I started today...I thought AA did not fly the 727 on those routes. Good to know they did!

Yes, brand new from Boeing

With at least one stop at PTY, no non-stop's even on the 707's. But they did operate LAP-SCL non-stop on the tri-jet.

NW GUM to SEL (2000sm) daily flights in 727-200M during the mid 90's. Never had to make a tech stop to my knowledge. 2 or 3 of the five 727s they operated out of GUM had the aux tanks in the cargo hold.
