Silly Time - GE9X on a 748X

Thu Jul 04, 2019 2:55 pm

Well, the wings of a 747-200 already fly a GE9X...... Why not two on a 748?

Continuous thrust of a GEnx 2b is about 58K lbs or 116K per side. Sounds very doable for an engine (GE9X) that can out thrust a GE90-115.......

If it’s silly time, sure you can invent anything in Photoshop. For real, you need to learn a lot about Part 25 performance standards. A twin needs a lot more thrust than the total of the four GEnx 2bs

From an engineering perspective, the 747 is not able to support twin-engine operations without MAJOR modifications to the wing structure. This can also alter its aerodynamics as well.
To me, it will always be:
- Bombardier CSeries
- Airbus A321neoLR and A321neoXLR
- EMBRACER ERJ-170, ERJ-175, ERJ-190, and ERJ-195
- MITSUBUSHI MRJ

Anti narrowbody-long range-twinjet gang. Long live the A380 and 747!

Twins also need more rudder to handle engine-out asymmetrical thrust than a quad.
Is just me, or is flying not as much fun anymore?
