Airport with most “short” long haul flights

Thu Jul 04, 2019 10:28 pm

What airports around the world have the shortest long haul flights?

For example, BOS-DUB flights are long haul, though the flight is often under 5 hours.

How do we define long haul? Let’s just say: flights that full service airlines offer proper international long haul amenities on (full meals, amenity kits for business/first, etc).

Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi? The ME3 have some really long flights, but a lot are to Europe and parts of Asia that aren't far away. My guess is that the majority of their flights are less than 8 hours.

What is the cut off? How do you define a short long haul flight? How long is a piece of string? Is DXB-MCT a short long haul because it is flown on a widebody but it is short? You are basically asking for medium haul flights.

I would think that Istanbul must be in the running as Turkish Airlines alone flies it’s A330s and 777-300ERs to a number of cities in Europe and the Middle East with journeys of four hours and less - eg Doha, Tel Aviv, Frankfurt London and even Athens.

You can add AMS, DUS, HAM and more to that. Usually A330. I even flew SOF-IST on an A330 once.

I'd go for JFK. 20+ flights to London every day plus the other around the UK that are annoyingly short redeyes.

It's an odd question though as long haul is all relative and has pretty blurred boundaries, BTW I'm the tallest short person in the office.

It's a beautiful thing when people read the original post.

And comprehend it.
if assumptions could fly, airliners.net would be the world's busiest airport

What about LAX & SFO to NYC (including JFK and EWR). These may not be international, but airlines offer first class with lie-flat seats, amenity kits, etc.

BKK-Japan comes to mind, as these routes are only 6-7 hours long, but airlines have a full meal service and snack service on these routes.

So I guess AA's A321T service count as long haul in this definition?
This is a placeholder.
