The Jumbo Hostel is nice, but the one in Haneda features a fully functioning fixed base simulator. So I'll pay to spend a night there, even if just for one night.

I have moved this thread to Travel, Polls and Preferences. I think it will get more attention in this forum.

You can only use the simulator for a 90minute session and have to be accompanied by an instructor, you don’t just get to play on it as much as you please. Plus the session costs extra on top of the hotel room. I don’t really see the point, you’d be just as good staying in any other hotel and booking time at a place like Flight Experience https://flightexperience.com/

It's not a hotel, but the In-and-Out Burger by LAX is pretty famous among most avgeeks for pretty obvious reasons I'm sure.

If you can walk away from it intact, it was a good landing!

That's a real bummer.

If I want to fly a simulator, I can do that at home in my living room. It might not look as fancy as the one in that hotel room, but it's functional and I can use it whenever I like without an instructor. Then I'd say the hotel rooms in an aircraft are better. Sure they lack a simulator, but that doesn't bother me. The simulator in that hotel room is worthless anyway if you can't use it as you please.

Indeed an amazing place for aviation enthusiasts. Many years ago I visited this hotel just for watching aircraft. I hope to return one day. The only drawback, at least for photographers, all rooms are facing south against the sun.

Check out the new TWA Hotel at JFK. The architectural landmark terminal of course is all by itself a temple to the golden age of commercial aviation. There's tons of fun artifacts on display. There is an actual Lockheed Super Constellation out on the tarmac which now serves as a cocktail lounge. The rooftop bar/pool offer great views of planes on the tarmac, and almost all of the runways, and is open to all. You can reserve a room that has these views if you wish to stay over.

I 2nd the TWA Hotel as Avgeeks pure perfection. Did it in June while it was going through its many initial issues. That said, being up by the Infinity ;pool is the coolest thing. A380 city! Etihad, Emirates so close you almost feel you could touch. Afternoon while enjoying lunch by the pool saw an Korean A380 taking off with an Asiana a380 immediately following it. What more could you ask for an airport hotel ?!

The greatest hotel room ever for aviation geeks is the one on a cruise ship to SXM.

The new HILTON GARDEN HOTEL connected to Terminal 2 in the CTA at London Heathrow Airport has just opened for business and it has great views overlooking the southern runway and aprons. The rooms overlook the runway and there is a bar and restaurant on the top floor with great views overlooking the entire airport.

Having been to St Maarten on many occasions by cruise ships I don't totally agree with your comments as in ''greatest hotel room ever for aviation geeks''.

Sure you get a great view of the aircraft approaching or departing SXM but it's not really close up like some hotel rooms at airports around the world where the action is a lot closer than the visiting cruise ships at St Maarten or other airports for that matter where cruise ships are berthed nearby.

The Renaissance Hotel at London Heathrow Airport for example has absolutely excellent views of the the airport and is extremely close to the airport's northern runway and in my my opinion a far greater hotel room for aviation geeks than a cruise ship berthed at St Maarten.

You misunderstood. It's not about the view from a ship itself (there is no view of Maho Beach from the ship), but the fact that the "hotel room" on a cruise represents a fully-catered tropical vacation and transportation toward one of the most famous sites in the world for aviation geeks...And you don't even need an exterior room to get that benefit, any room on the ship will get you there just the same (minus the last-mile taxi ride).
