Possible new routes for Volaris or VivaAerobus within Mexico

Wed Jul 17, 2019 4:11 pm

Now that Volaris is no longer flying into Albuquerque, I think we should discuss some possible domestic routes that have yet to be flown by either Volaris, VivaAerobus, or Interjet. I'm writing this because I think there may be potential for adding such routes. Recently Volaris added GDL-DGO, CUU-QRO, CJS-CUU, CUL-CJS, GDL-QRO and CJS-HMO for instance. I don't know what new routes Viva and Interjet are adding as I haven't been paying as close attention to them as Volaris. But it seems like Volaris is adding more new routes than the other two.

Down to the nitty gritty. Here are some possible routes that I think Volaris or Viva should operate within the near future:

• CJS-TRC (TAR currently flies that route, and I think there is a potential for Volaris flying it)
• TRC-BJX
• GDL-MZT
• MEX-TRC (if VivaAerobus flies that route and MEX is also hub for Volaris, then the latter might as well fly that route to ramp up competition with the former and Interjet)
• GDL-PDS (Volaris ought to fly into Piedras Negras, so that one wouldn't have to be on Anáhuac for almost a day trying to go there or Ciudad Acuña).
• CJS-MLM
• CJS-PVR

What do you guys think

Not within Mexico but something of note, Viva is adding STL as a charter and so in a few months, they should release the seats commercially as well. HUX/SJD/PVR

I think Volaris should try out TIJ-LAS. I can't believe this has never been tried before. Maybe this would be more up VivaAerobus's alley.
We're up.

This flight would require a significant one way penalty as everyone would fly back to SAN and drive down for half the cost (no intl fees). Unlike when crossing into the US, there is no wait while leaving. If they can figure that out, this flight could be a potential gold mine

I don't see a TIJ-LAS flight anytime soon, especially since Southwest flies LAS-SAN. But since TIJ has the CBX bridge, I could imagine passengers using it to cross into the US instead of using the crossing from Tijuana into San Isidro. If one wants to go to San Diego from Las Vegas, it would make more sense just to fly LAS-SAN on Southwest. But LAS-TIJ could make sense if Tijuana is one's destination or if he or she transfers to go deeper into Mexico.

On another thread about Volaris cancelling flights between Albuquerque and Mexico, I made a post stating Volaris should fly between Mexico and El Paso (e.g. ELP-GDL, ELP-BJX).

Exactly how much are the fee's? SAN can't serve both populatons forever. TIJ had 7 Millons pax and growing. There must be a few that would fill up a flight to a popular resort where the taxes probably represent a few spins at the casino gone in 15 minutes and a direct nonstop flight would save hours.
We're up.

Just found out that Cancun - Los Cabos is completely unserved. These are two of the busiest airports in Mexico, can't imagine there isn't any demand. Maybe they should try that one.

I have been thinking this for a long time. Many of the people I know go to LAS driving or on chartered buses. I think some TIJ to some northern markets should be tried, as mentioned to LAS. I would recommend experimenting with: ORD, IAH, DFW and SFO.

AeroMexico, Volaris, VivaAerobus, and Interjet always have flights between Mexico City and Guadalajara, so I think Volaris or Viva should also do Cancún - Los Cabos.

Now, regarding the other routes I had in mind, I really think Volaris should also fly to Ciudad Juárez from Torreón; and Volaris should also fly TRC-BJX.
