Are there any airlines still ordering A318s?

Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:05 am

When was the last A318 delivered? Have any A318s been converted to private jets?

I believe the A318 is no longer in production. Airlines looking for an aircraft of that size and better economics would consider the C-Series - which in fact has become an Airbus! The A220 does everything the A318 could have done

Simple answer. No. It''s pointless. many of the were scrapped early for
parts that could be used on larger A320s series aircraft. It was designed for
a different oil price, like the 736, and no longer made any sense when technology
advanced. Some of them may see a future as converted business jets but
if leasing companies and airlines get more from the scrapper that's where they're
going.

Blacksoviet no longer available.

None have been converted to A318CJ standard post market - In fact fewer than 20 CJ ELITE models have been built .
Ten of Frontier models were scrapped with few miles on the clock, several of the Avianca ones seem to be following suit whilst only AIr France has anything close to a commercially significant number of them that are used on domestic and on short Channel hops in the main.

The only one that’s used as something of a private charter frame is G-EUNB still own by IAG as far as I know but leased to Titan .
This is a popular race horse with sport club and pop band hires across Europe.
It also still covers for sister G-EUNA at LCY for adhoc and mx operations as required.

This mark were a commercial failure on every level imho

G-EUNB is no longer owned by BACF (IAG), it was sold to Fuyo General Lease FGL and immediately leased to Titan Airways.

I'm not sure how many times it has covered for G-EUNA on the LCY to JFK link but it hasn't happened very often if at all.

Correct, production ceased in 2013.

Personally I've always wondered why the A318 was never available with IAE engines.

True. However, I think the result would have been different had TW survived to take the 50 they had on order.

I flew on an AF 318 once. CDG-TXL. Was tough to distinguish from a 319.

Today, Air France, TAROM and Avianca operate the A318, as well as BA and Titan Airways with one A318 each. Mexicana, Avianca Brasil, LATAM Chile (then LAN) and Frontier either retired the aircraft or (in the first two cases) collapsed themselves.

I do know of an A318 (HZ-RCA) flying for the Saudi Red Crescent Authority.

Unnecessarily rude. How about explaining where other users can find such data? Not everybody knows.

Someone who managed to find their way to Airliners.net of all places should know what Flightaware is an how to use it.

One comes into and leaves Heathrow each day. With an east wind, it flies over my house on its way out of Heathrow. I think it's the only A318 going into Heathrow these days, although I stand to be corrected.

Take it easy man... People go to Airliners.net so they DON'T HAVE to go through Flightaware to do all that work. This is also a community, where people can also enjoy conversation.

There are plenty of people with the answer, who are happy to answer questions like this, straight-away, without condescension. Some people are even kind enough to do the research themselves, and share with the poster.... If you'd prefer not to chime in constructively with an answer: It really isn't very nice (certainly adds nothing to the conversation) to make a post like that.

Actually Airbus never intended to develop a CFM-A318. It was only a special request by Air France, as they have been using only CFM on their A320s. But when the PW-Engine didn't meet requirements at first, some airlines switched to CFM, too. That more or less explains, why there is no IAE-A318: it should have been a PW-only plane.

How does BA operate LCY-JFK with just one A318?

The old concorde gate I believe. But that info could quickly be found online using google.
