They used to be good. I'm an AA million-miler. These days I avoid them especially if I have another choice.

Not really, although I've got nothing against them either. They wouldn't be my first choice.

Yes. As a BA Sapphire living in Los Angeles they are my number one choice. Great flag ship lounge (the main reason I use BA to earn my Oneworld status and not AAdvantage as you get lounge access with BA Sapphire but not as an AA Sapphire), free MCE when in Y, good network etc.

Same here, I think AA are OK and use them with My BA number to help with Tier points to get lounge access.

When I go TATL I try to go AA on an A330 route, best product across the pond in Y in my opinion.

Better than UA, worse than DL. They’re all just transportation on extruded tubes. I find SQ and EK better than any on them, but still a ride.

Love hate. They are a "hometown" airline here of sorts in MIA. Love their big operations at MIA, that I get to see tons of 767 and 777s around all day. Even some widebody domestic flights.

But many their FF program, which used to be awesome is not anymore.

Economy Basic is a scam.

Getting rid of IFE screens was a huge mistake.

The 737Max is as bad as flying NK.

They only care about their big time customers not the 5-10 flight a type person.

Their Airline credit card has no travel benefits or insurance.

I don't like AA, but I have only flown on them this summer and on two routes only, on LAX-PHX and PHX-LHR. I only dislike AA due to the massive delays served to me with a 3 hour delay on the outbound from LAX-PHX on their A31N, even though I had moved my flight this early because the original flight I had booked was moved due to the MAX groundings to an only 45 minute layover at PHX. At the very least the contractors at PHX were kind enough to take us on their golf carts from one end of PHX T4 to our already boarding flight to LHR on the other end of PHX. But that's just my two cents from the two flights I had at AA's bottom.
Well uh, I obviously decided to refine this but i dont know how.

they're cool

only flight i have had on them ever was an MD-80 that ended up having a 4 hour delay.. the AA people gave us unlimited free sandwiches/snacks/drinks and gave us all 3,000 AAdvantage points for free.

No.

I actually can't complain about any of the employees I interacted with on my most recent trip with them; they were all very nice and helpful. The onboard experience just feels all-around low-quality in economy, and I definitely didn't appreciate being put on a CRJ for the SLC-ORD leg of my trip (yes, I realize DL and UA also do this, but at least over the summer, they were both mostly mainline on that route). The AA app is also much less useful than either DL or UA's, and was of no help whatsoever when I had to be rebooked due to a delay. I pretty much only fly AA when my company books me on them, and aside from that, I'll very happily stick to Delta or United.

I vote yes. Which brings the tally so far to 7 yes, 5 no, and 4 who are unable to answer a yes/no question.

I do not fly AA much at all, usually AS or UA, with WN third. I'd rank AA fourth behind them, not out of any dislike of AA, I've had no problems with them. They simply seem to have inconvenient flight times or more regional flights on the routes I travel.

Unfortunately, no. Their DCA operation is a mess (hello, Z gates). Living in the MD suburbs of DC, I'd like to take advantage of their DCA service, but the last few flights I've taken have been horribly delayed, the employees seem either callous or indifferent, and the Eagle operation relies heavily on tired, old CRJs. The rotting, fetid ghosts of Allegheny/USAir/U.S. Airways lives on.

So, I'm stuck schlepping out to IAD to take UA, as I'd sooner walk over hot coals than take WN out of BWI (which is actually far closer for me).

They are the airline I have flown the most...Not that anything was particularly bad or such but it just comes of as a sad operation overall. I was also on a long haul from HKG recently and that wasn't the best experience either. The cabin crew I have come across is not as friendly or cheerful as some other airlines around. I also dislike DFW in general and baggage delays (and by association AA- although it is more to do with that airport in general)

Yes.

Though I have Platinum status, which gets me complimentary upgrades to Main Cabin Extra (which now includes free drinks), and I am usually only flying relatively short hops in the East and Midwest. Meaning: I don't know what the experience is like for those in steerage, especially for long haul.

I do fly other U.S. carriers and I don't understand the sudden hate for AA. To me, all Big 4 U.S. airlines are mostly the same, with the exception of WN's boarding process. Sometimes you're going to get a brand new, clean plane; sometimes you're going to get a junker. Sometimes you're going to have friendly, helpful crews; sometimes you get angry or indifferent. Sometimes you have a mechanical delay that is handled well by the crew and you're kept informed; sometimes you're in an information desert. People love to rave about DL but I have had some poor customer service experiences with them. A lot of it is luck of the draw.

Yes.

Haven't had the problems on them that others seem to have. Almost every employee I've ran into (save for some LUS GA's at MCO and PHL who were hired from the depths of hell) are extremely courteous & helpful. Any delays/cancellations I've had on them were not their fault and I've been quickly rebooked. Service/seats for the most part are acceptable and I've never had a bad American Eagle flight either.

That being said, I mainly fly Delta just because of flight availability/pricing.

Yes. the only problems I have had with AA have been weather related, no fault of their own. I'll be flying them again in a couple of weeks, hopefully my opinion of them will not change after that!

No.

DFW after 6 PM is like watching rats abandon a sinking ship. Most of the airport is desperately trying to close down and flee from customers, and AA personnel couldn't give a flying f*** if your delayed flight has passengers desperate to make their connections. Their job? Run from responsibility.Add in being yelled at by a gate agent, "where were you?" when you've run to your connecting gate after a 3-hour driving tour of the entire DFW facility waiting for a gate when your flight was delayed, and the only conclusion to be made is that this is NOT a well-run airline.

AA used to be a great airline, but vulture capitalism has ruined it. Remember the raucous that was raised when "shareholders" of the airline were horrified that the extra money was going to new planes and cost of living increases for the employees instead of directly to them? That alone speaks volumes about the running of an airline.

My trips with United, Delta, Southwest, JetBlue, while not at the level of 1960's true First Class service levels, only have occasional hiccups. Every flight with American has had multiple wonderful people but they are outweighed by the stench of anger and resentment by their people. Until such time as this changes, I will not fly AA.

I want them to be great again. But probably not in my lifetime.

Im sure they can be as good as any airline. It depends on the crew. But honestly..i would spend 60-80 bucks more on a euro/asian/any other than the US2 (UA AA) DL though.. Ive had many positive experiences on them. But i would still Fly VS over DL if i had the choice.

They are fine. Just like any other airline in my eyes. Prefer WN because of the free bags and generous change policies, but will fly anyone when it makes sense. Have flown AA, UA, DL, G4, WN, F9, HA, and AS all in the last two years. The differences are pretty minimal if you are in Y.

My experience is limited but all 4 AA flights I've ever been on were comfortable (3x A321 1x MD80) and enjoyable (good IFE, friendly FAs and the FO that took a picture of me in the MD80 cockpit).

So put me as a yes, and I even work for a competitor.

Not really. I had a very badly handled IROPS situation earlier this year. Even for a weather related diversion, I'm pretty sure they had to bring a replacement crew, but didn't offer any information about it, just kept delaying the ETD. Ground staff, while trying their best, had no idea on how to get us on a connecting flight (with AA, same ticket and all). I had to rely on my proffesional experience and geographical knowledge of the USA, so at least I could get close to my destination! I didn't ask for compensation or anything, but they refused to rebook our departure for an extra day (they did after I talked to ground staff at the rerouted airport, who in turn had to ask to her supervisor, as if I was requesting an upgrade or some bs)

Add to that that the bags were delayed, and when I phoned them, I couldn't get any info. But they were at the airport.

Also, the 777 is VERY narrow (granted I will find this on many other companies) and the food was... adequate.

IFE is nice at least. And the app is neat.

I'd chose them again if the price & routing were right, but with UA and B6 (both shorthaul, so it's not so fair) I've had more pleasant experiences. I haven't tried DL but I'd love to.

Yes and No.

Positive -
They can be very competitive on price.
I like that many of their flights out of Denver are on A321’s.
The size of the A321 means that not every flight is packed like a sardine can. Often have an empty seat next to me.
Employees have been both friendly and helpful.

Negatives
I’ve needed the employees to be helpful too often. Just this year I’ve had canceled flights (faulty engine) and hours sat on the tarmac (relatively minor repair and sign off).
I’m not a fan of DFW or CLT.

American Eagle is an American Airlines branded service. His experience so far on an airplane painted in AA colors with an AA ticket, hence his opinion.
It counts.

Their customer service is awful, the employees are among the worst in the business, and their planes and the service and amenities on them are awful.

Glad I live in BOS where I can fly DL and receive some reliable professional service and IFE.

I find this to be a fairly simplistic response.

I am both a Delta and AA Platinum split between Boston and Chicago. To address your points of contention;

1. Their customer service is in line with DL and UA. Those that say no probably are basing it on a sample size of <10
2. Their LUS aircraft are crap, I agree. However, unless your flying BOS to PHX you're probably not on one. Comparing to DL, I would choose an AA 737 (with or without IFE) over a DL MD any day of the week.
3. IN MY OPINION, BOS Terminal B (especially the AA gates) run laps around DL's BOS terminal A

Everyone's entitled to an opinion -- I just don't agree with yours!

Yes, American was fine.

The planes went up in the air and came down at the airport it was supposed to on-time.

That's all I paid for and what I received.

AA mainline is fine, on par with Delta and far better thanUnited. I wish they had not ditched the inflight entertainment systems. The worst thing is their American Eagle operations, especially PSA Airlines at DCA. The aircraft are old and really showing it. This pic was taken last week in AA 5514, DCA-BGR, flown by PSA as American Eagle. The restroom was extremely smelly and filthy, no paper towels, tissue or soap. Worst of all is the condition of the aircraft, a CRJ2. Saw many pieces of speedtape on the starboard winglet. Obviously they have been in place for some time. Not the type of thing you want your passengers seeing as they look out the window.
