BA New Livery?

Mon Sep 16, 2019 4:58 am

BA have had their current livery for ~20 years now. Any rumours or anyone think they’ll be changing it anytime soon?

Hopefully not, that livery is timeless it feels like.

I'd refurb all J cabins before thinking of a new livery.

Agreed - at most if look to slightly refresh the colour pallet to me the blue and red needs a slight change to make it feel more modern - but perhaps that would make it feel less British? Some of their brand touch points fee very ‘heavy’ with the dark navy/blue as the primary colour, perhaps a shift away from this?

I actually am surprised about their new lounge design, that doesn’t feel particularly inspired to me? Touch points like this need a refresh first.

Curious to see what the new uniforms look like also. The current ones are fine- but the fit is a bit off.

I would like them too. It’s starting to look a little dated. I’ve never liked their current livery, the flag is a bit cartoonish and doesn’t quite look right. I doubt they have any immediate plans too. They have recently taken delivery or multiple new aircraft types and I presume any change would have been done before the deliveries started.

The colour palette was reviewed to brilliant white a few years back, the whole fleet has only flown the Chatham logo for about 14 years, the first 8 years of the brand had the world tails.
Careful what you wish for, if IAG have any say it’ll just be the IB/EI look in red, white and blue.

Landor screams 1980s, it beautiful in sunlight but it’s not timeless, it’s clearly of it’s time IMHO.

I agree, the brilliant white and crest refresh has bought the current scheme a life extension. I actually think it’s fine for now, be careful what you wish for i.e Lufthansa.

No livery is ever timeless, however I agree the current livery is still up-to-date. It still fits the current times. Not to say that it won't ever get outdated, but that time hasn't come yet.

Therefor there is no need for a new livery at this moment.

A revised sans serif typeface is slowly being rolled-out.

I agree Landor is outdated. It was fine back then, but again it's not timeless. At a certain moment it was time to move on to the current livery, a wise choice. Landor wouldn't suit with the modern times anymore.

Before spending a dime on painting the outside of the plane fix the customer experience inside. The outdated J seating, indifferent service and the race to the bottom. It should be an airline you want to fly, not have to.

It took me years to realize the tail is actually the Union Jack. Not at all obvious. Needs additional elements of blue to stand out. To me, it always looks like some kind of a red scarf made in MS Paint.

The BA livery is fairly good, actually, despite the non-obvious Union Jack on the tail, save for one thing. I absolutely hate the placement of the BA ribbon logo above the windows and the British Airways wordmark below the windows. Asiana Airlines follows a similar approach. The liveries will be infinitely better if the wordmarks are moved above the windows, and the BA ribbon and OZ chevron removed altogether.

I am not a fan of wordmarks below the windows in general, and Norwegian is the worst offender in this regard. The logo is practically below the nose of the plane.

So was Landor. BA has always done a great job with liveries for its time. But their visual brand is very distinct. The last change in corporate visual brand went well (once they dropped the "World Tails" nonsense). It will eventually be replaced and whoever has that job had better be very creative.
