Your Favorite Airliner of all time

Sat Sep 21, 2019 9:21 pm

Mine is the 747. I remember back in the mid 80s flying into Seattle or Anchorage , I forget which it was now. All the way down the plane was vibrating so bad the overhead bins were a blur. We were in an rain storm and when the plane landed we hit hard but did not bounce. When were taxing to the gate the pilot said over the intercom sorry about the landing i misjudged the distance. And I mean the overhead bins were a blur.

My 2nd favorite is the C-130. We had a monthly resupply flight into our 2300 foot strip.

L-1011 for the jet age. Based on looks but no flying experience: Airspeed Ambassador. Another looker: Lockheed L-1649.

My username speaks mine, but a Northwest Orient 747 was my 1st to wrap my arms around (as in with camera lense). The imagine/experience lives with you forever.
But a TWA 707 ride is right up there with it.

DC-8
Fond memories of travelling to the UK from Halifax when I was a young kind in the 70s on a variety of AC DC-8's. Nonstop in summer and stops in Gander and Pestwick in winter. Especially loved the massive windows!

Mine is the DC-9 as it was the first jetliner I ever flew on and sparked my future career. I love the 767 too as it was the first widebody I ever flew on. Later in life it became the first airplane I ever flew as a captain. Honorable mention goes to the 747 because it’s just a gorgeous airplane.

When i was stationed in new york city i would fly back to detroit every other weekend on a 727. Never was late getting back to base lol.
And made 2 trips on a 707 but don't remember the airline. If I remember correctly I think it was 60 dollars for round trip on the 727.

The 747- 400 for many long trips to Asia during 1994 - 2000 , but the 757 rocket ship rides in some great take-offs can't be beat !

My only flying on DC8s was with Flying Tigers on military charters. Not comfortable, but I was reassured I was on a good, solid, fine aircraft made before McDonnell got their hands on things. A beautiful plane as well.

Ah....but do you mean looks from the outside or travel experience from the inside? Could be different!

Nothing will ever beat the beauty of the 744, ever. But the passenger experience in 2019 isn't great anymore.

My best memories of flying was on the pan am 747 either 100 or 200. By the mid 80's I guess pan am was already. Starting to have difficulties but I loved the way the planes looked. I sat back in the smoking section shich typically wasn't jam packed. I remember one flight that might not have been half full. I literally had the window seat and no one sitting besides me. That same isle the middle section was empty and the FA allowed me to stretch out and sleep. Although she said if we run into turbulence she was gonna make me go back to my seat. Of my several trips across the Atlantic I don't ever recall any serious turbulence. Many minutes would go by without so much as a bump. I'd love to have one more of those flights, but modern day filled up cramped economy, no smoking... don't know if I would fly the 747 just to do so.

Other favorites are the 727 and 757. But truth be told I'm not real fanatical about what I'm flying in. Flew WN a cpl days ago on a one stop from ORF TO ALB on a 737-700. Nice early morning flights got in early actually and I was just fine with it.

L1011, the Saudia green suited it well. Also 747. I have never had a 767 flight I liked.
L101, 733/4/5/8, 741/2/3 (never managed 744!), MD 80/2/3/8/90, MD11, DHC8/3/Q4, E170, E195, 757, 77W, 763/4, Travel Air 2000. A300/310, A319/320/321, A333, ATR-72, probably a few others I forget. Passenger, not pilot, alas! BUD based.
