Anyone seen new UAL Livery In Person

Tue Oct 01, 2019 7:32 pm

Hey, who has seen the new United livery in person. I just did for first time. I didn't like it in photos, worse in person. The new purple on the globe (that used to be gold) looks fluorescent - like it glows in the dark. Never thought the old livery was much but now I really appreciate it. But I knew beauty is in eyes of the beholder....

Maybe you should get your eyes checked because the new livery looks even better in person and there is no purple in it.

There's no purple in the globe. Its different shades of blue, and I personally like it better than the gold globe. But hey everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

Depending on the resolution of the photo, the lower blue / black swoop streak can come off as purple.

I agree. I hate it. It reminds me of the early 90’s when all the expansion sports teams were using those type of colors (Colorado Rockies, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Florida Marlins, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Jacksonville Jaguars) that’s what it reminds me of. Pasé and cheap.

The gold cheat line and dark blue over the gold globe (same color as the meatball tail background) should have stayed as it represented an iconic legacy carrier. Now UA looks like an ULCC.

I saw it in person for the first time about a week ago and thought the glowing neon shade was lurid and awful.

As I was sitting in ORD waiting for a flight Friday, I was surprised how many new-livery aircraft taxied by. I thought it looked much better in person than in photos and I thought it looked pretty great in the photos.

I like it but mostly because I think anything represents a step up from the old livery.

I liked it. For anyone passing through STL, they have been sitting in the hanger opposite the terminals for at least since August.
Instead of typing in "mods", consider using the report function.
Love how every "travel blogger" says they will never fly AA/Ethihad again and then says it again and again on subsequent flights.

I saw it in Detroit and I was disappointed.
I like the blue gradient on the tail but, in my humble opinion, the globe needed restyling not just a color change. It all seems like a lazy effort - they replaced gold with blue and made it bigger.
It's my belief United should've invested in a new, unique identity for itself or at the very least a modernized logo. They basically refreshed the Continental globe from 27 years ago .

A welcome improvement. First saw it on 9/28/19 at MDT on a 737-800.

The new livery looks better on regional aircraft than it does on mainline

I personally like it and have seen it on many occasions, I think it stands out more than the old livery.

So the usual ex-cons are sad that the dominant airline in the merger did away with the gold, outdated livery. Sorry, but it's over. That's my take

From day 1 of the merger I have disliked the United livery. Before the merger both airlines had nice colour schemes in my opinion. But to slap the name of one carrier on the livery of the other, not good. I still think of Continental when I see United. The globe doesn’t fit United. It got worse when they decided to replace the straight cheatline with a curved one. I could accept a “swoosh” on a small charter airline, but not on a legacy carrier. The latest livery of United is still not an improvement. I haven’t seen it in person yet, as I haven’t travelled to the United States recently.

Looks like I'm in the minority. I love the new livery and it does it's job with modernizing and unifying the brand. The gradient on the tail especially looks great. It's an evolution that builds off an already strong brand, while saving costs and they did a great job with it.

They should have just changed their Livery to that dress no one could decide the color of, then everyone could argue without regret.

I have seen it in person on both the 737 and a couple of EMB-175s and I am very disappointed. It actually makes me want the gold globe back, as it looks far classier. The billboard titles aren't too bad but the globe on the tail is oversized and now out of proportion. And that shade of light electric blue on the darker blue tail is just cheap looking. It's almost too trendy and this blue/teal/purple color scheme is going to be horribly outdated before they even get all the planes repainted and redone inside. Big fail.
