Do you think that PHL-CMN will be a succes?

Sat Oct 05, 2019 10:40 am

And what do you all think about the future with AA and CMN? Should they start new routes to Casablanca CMN from DFW or ORD?

I can't think of why it would not be a success. I'm not sure what the O&D traffic looks like between PHL and Casablanca, but you do have sizable feed at either end. I see that AA will use a 757.

For years the only non-stops USA-Morocco have been Royal Air Maroc's JFK-CMN and IAD-CMN, and now you want to argue that a 4th or 5th route should be started? AT has been interlining and pricing trips to major U.S. cities as a single fare component in each direction. I'm surprised it wasn't DL from JFK or UA from EWR starting a flight but we'll see what AA can do.

If AA cooperates with AT and use the aforementioned 757, why wouldn’t it work?

Its a very low risk situation. Flying a 757 less than daily on pretty short transatlantic flight. Its very low risk.

I’m sure it will do fine, Vasu did mention they would like to cooperate with AT on the CMN end. AA would develop the PHL route before they even think of ORD/DFW-CMN flights.

I think it will be a success because of all the connections to/from various African cities at CMN...but EWR or JFK would have been more logical O/D destinations. The airport in CMN and ObeWorl partner Royal Air Maroc is very poorly run and when there are delays or missed connections, customer service is awful or non-existent. The restaurant and cafeteria are terrible too (poorly run, dirty, etc.).

I'm guessing it will do fine just because there isn't much/any competition, but SO disappointing that it's a 757. I was excited when the route was announced but I'm not flying that old plane that long.

They are both big One World hubs so I don't see why it won't be a success.

American's going the conservative way on this route. If it performs well, expect it to upguage frequencies/aircraft, potentially the 788 if it's truly a success.
