Airports with most Flagship flights E.g "001"

Thu Oct 10, 2019 11:35 pm

Was wondering which airport has the most Flagship numbers originating with Flight number 001. I know that SFO has at least 3.

SQ001 to HKG
UA001 to SIN
JAL001 to HND

Heathrow has at least 2.

VS001 to EWR
MH001 to KUL

LHR also has KLM 1001, which is KLM de facto flight 1.

JFK has AA 1 to LAX, DL 1 to LHR, and BA 1 from LCY to JFK with a stop at SNN.

LAX also has HA 1 to HNL in addition to AA 1 from JFK to LAX.

DAL has WN 1 on one of its morning DAL-HOU nonstops.

DCA has AS 1 on one of its DCA-SEA nonstops.

QF1 SYD-SIN-LHR
DL1 JFK-LHR

I'm pretty sure LHR is going to knock this out of the park.

Someone want to do the counting?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_number#List_of_flight_number_1_by_airlines

Incomplete list ofcourse:

LHR- 8 (VS/QR/QF/MH/EK/BG/DL/NZ)
(nine if you count KLM 1001)

LAX: 7 (NZ, TN, AA, CP, AY, HA, VA)

JFK: 6: (TK, B6, LY, DL, BA, AA)

SFO: 4 (CP, JL, SQ, UA)

FRA: 2 (LH, EY)

Air India 1 is the de facto Air Force One of India - it is only used when the Prime Minister is onboard.

AI101 on the other hand, is DEL-JFK. So that's +1 for JFK, I guess..

CX1-99 are cargo flights. CX100 is Cathay's de facto flight one, which is SYD-HKG.

Not completely on topic but still interesting, callsign "Shepherd 1" is used for any aircraft the Pope happens to be on board!

This makes me wonder, are there any flight numbers that have an actual special meaning? Like are there any airlines that use flight 001 as their first flight commencing commercial operations?

I guess WN1 DAL-HOU?

Not a flight 1, but I appreciate that Qantas still use QF3/4 for SYD-HNL-SYD. QF1/2 has always been London via Asia, while QF3/4 was SFO via HNL, their first TPAC route.

So actually It's a tie. I'm talking about originating flights not arrivals, Arrivals are nothing to boast about neither are Defacto 1001 flights.

SFO has 3 and LHR has 3.

Why?

Arriving would seame to be equaly important. It's logical that the departing airport is from the "home airport", the arrival airport proves to be the most important, premium or historical destination.
It's really trivial to play the "this counts and this doesn't ".
