Ireland Japan Direct Flights?

Tue Oct 22, 2019 12:54 pm

Are direct flights between Ireland and Japan about to become a reality? The Rugby World Cup has created more awareness of Ireland in Japan and this had helped speed up negotiations on opening a new route between Dublin and Tokyo.

Which one of JAL or ANA be likely to start a route to DUB?

Maybe ANA. There were already some rumors about NH and DUB last year.

It must be either a Japanese airline or SAS, since they are the only ones who could obtain overflight permits for Russia. If any, my bet would be ANA with a 3-weekly 788.
flown: F50,F70,CR1,CR2,CR9,CS3,E75,E90,143,AR8,AR1,733,735,736,73G,738,

Do you know the sources of these rumours?

I have read in the Japanese aviation magazin "AIRLINE" April 2018's issue that Mr.HIRAKO Yuji ANA's CEO said
explores the possibility of new destination in Europe such as BCN, IST, DUB or Nordic city.
I couldn't find any link of the article.

There are other media news in same period. But the content is bit different from Japanese one.

There is no chance of Aer Lingus doing it? Since they only operate to Europe and North America.

For sure it won't be SAS. They might have an Irish AOC, but they don't have a base in Ireland. Only in Scandinavia, which is their home turf. And Ireland is not part of Scandinavia.

Perhaps you meant Aer Lingus. That would certainly be a possibility. I believe they hold the Russian overflight rights for Ireland, although they don't use them at the moment.
