Connecting in Lisbon (realistic transfer time?)

Thu Nov 07, 2019 9:14 am

Hi all,

Just looking for some feedback regarding a routing I’m looking at: AMS-LIS-MIA in early January. The TAP site offers me a 1:35h connection but I’m wondering if it’s realistic, especially when flying onwards to the US.

I’d prefer not to stay a night in Lisbon but I would hate missing the connection (and screwed up travel/hotel plans) even more. TAP is the airline of choice due to vouchers I have (plus a chance to fly the A339).

Thanks!

From my own experience no problem at all. TP @ LIS is just one small Terminal, easy to navigate. And honestly, I wouldn't stay any longer in LIS!

Domestic (Schengen) to Intl isn´t a big mess. However, the inverse way (Int´l to Schengen) is the real problem. Expect +1:30 hrs. just to clear inmigration if you haven´t an European passport.

Have you checked the recent on-time performance of your AMS to LIS-leg ?
In case you are looking into the 0700h departure ex Schiphol, TP669 shows quite some variance on FR24 with some arrival-delays of more than one hour, which will render a 1h35-connection a "missed connection".

LIS is really quick and easy for transit passengers.
Did FRA-LIS-MIA about 3 years ago and didn't take me more than about 10-15 minutes
So unless you have some 60+ minutes delay you'll be perfectly fine

Also worth factoring in that you have a reasonable chance of ending up on a remote stand with a bus trip to the terminal.

Given the choice: if I wasn't in a hurry, I'd pick a stay in Lisbon over trying to rush a connection. It's a lovely city, not too expensive, and the airport is very close to the city centre.

Thanks for all replies!
I did end up booking the 1:35 connection, indeed on TP669 from AMS (which now shows a good on-time performance for the past week or so). Hopefully everything will go smooth, as many people (also outside of A.net) have said. But if not; I'll manage and it won't ruin the entire trip if I arrive a day later.
