What are the top 3 favorite vacation destinations you've been to and what are the top 3 destinations on your bucket list?
Feel free to choose a city, a region or also an entire country as a destination.

Here's my selection

2. Malaysia
3. Paris

Autumn: Paris
Winter: Maria Alm (Austria)
Spring: Cote d'Azur
Summer: A Greek island

Best of all, those destinations are all a maximum of 3,5 hours flying away. Or, in the case of Austria, a nice 10 hour drive.

Bucket list:
Viet Nam
South Pacific
Japan
Signature. You just read one.

Interesting question, I've been wondering for some time if I should leave my hometown (in Paris suburbs) to go live in a "vacation destination" because vacations aren't long enough.

To me there are places you want to visit, there are places you want to go back to, and there are places you want to live in. If you can combine two or three of those characteristics, even better.

Tuscany has to be at the top of my list. I have family there and have been many times, visited Firenze, Sienna, Pisa, and countless other places many times, and I enjoy going back and again.

Brittany, where I have my other roots, especially the coasts. I enjoy sailing, the white sand beaches, the granite...

The Alps, especially in winter for skiing, preferably from the highest ski resorts. I like to be up there and ski for hours until exhaustion. I also climbed a couple of mountains in summer as a scout.

Bucket list :
French Polynesia
La Réunion
French Caribbean

I'm just back from California, landed in SFO, drove through Fresno (wedding there), Sequoia park, Los Angeles, bathed in Malibu, drove the Pacific Coast Highway back to SFO, it was nice.
Last year I visited the North of Vietnam where one of my grandfathers was born, I liked it and will come back, also to visit the South.

Even though I've still a lot of places to visit for the first time, I'm lucky enough to have ticked off all the ones on my bucket list. Can't say that I have a favourite, most places gave their good and bad points, but a few stand out for different reasons:

Most fascinating: North Korea
Most hilarious: old Soviet Union
Most interesting city: Naples
Saddest country: Cuba
Place I'd go back to again and again: Sicily

Yes, at first glance it seems absurd compared to the exotic world class vacation spots other posters are listing. Then I read this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1434699

Perhaps Detroit and Michigan are the world's greatest unappreciated vacation destinations!

So I always try to go somewhere new and weird, and these are the places I recommend to my mother and grandmother:
1. Suriname
2. Botswana
3. Kyrgyzstan
4. Uruguay

These are my personal favourites, but for reasons to do with lack of modern amenities, or lack of transport options I don't recommend them to people who want a relaxing holiday
1. Mauritania
2. Comoros (particularly Moheli, amazing diving spot)
3. Lesotho

This is where I want to go most (changes on my mood)
1. Chad (particularly northern part, want to see the garden of the Sahara)
2. Pakistan
3. Idaho

For me...

1. Japan. Especially Hokkaido (Kyoto is nice, but there are way too many mainland Chinese tourists nowaday). I also love the Japanese Alps area.
2. Everything between West Coast and Great Plains in US/Canada, so that include Grand Canyon/Sedona, Yellowstone, Canadian Rockies, etc. A honorable mention would be driving along PCH in Cal.
3. Prague. It's just a beautiful city.
Viet Nam is an honorable mention just for the food.

Bucket List:
1. Patagonia, i.e. Torres del Paine NP in Chile
2. Uzbekistan. Places like Samarkand and Bukhara simply look stunning.
3. Victoria Falls along with Chobe or Hwange NP or Okavango Delta.

I am waiting for that service to start so I can go. I am certainly not flying FI to Iceland unless they serve DTW. I actually made a stop over there when FI served DTW in 1984 and I flew them but didn't leave the airport. I will not use an airline that doesn't serve my market when there is a market for service.

Had WOW Air stayed afloat and in Detroit you can bet I would have been on their flight this year. No not using Delta unless the airfare is a gift. Delta gets enough of my travel dollars already. I had 3 trips to Europe already booked in 2017/2018 so I was kind of booked out at that stage.
