Aircraft ID; which regional turboprops serviced Santa Barbara around 12yr ago?

Thu Nov 14, 2019 8:32 pm

This is such a random question, but I've been looking for a while and can't figure it out.

All I remember is that it was a SMALL low-wing twin turboprop, I believe it was SFO - Santa Barbara but might have been out of a different airport. I just remember that the plane had these beautiful polished engine fairings which really surprised me (maintenance / appearance-wise).

I thought it was a Saab 340 but I can't find a single airline with polished engine fairings. It would have been a fairly mainline airline like United Express or American Eagle, etc.

Agreed, especially if going SBA-SFO.

American Eagle used to use SAABs to LAX.
Meanwhile, somewhere 35,000 ft above your head...

Back then, Skywest flew EMB-120 Brasilias to LAX, SFO, and SJC. Horizon Air flew Q400s(high wing turboprops) to SEA/PDX as well as SMF, but SMF-SBA may have been gone more than 12 years ago. American Eagle flew Saab 340s from SBA-LAX but those ended in the mid 2000s I think? I forget when they were retired.

All Skywest EMB-120s had silver shiny engine cowlings, United Express or bare metal Skywest livery alike. The Blue-engined EMB-120s were gone by the early 2000s.
