I wouldn’t imagine the “tooling” was that much different from the 737-200, so you’d have to consider when the 737-200 was no longer offered/ordered. Namely 20+ years later in 1988.
The final drawings were cast in stone by the middle of 1965. Southwest didn’t start up until 1971. By then, the -200 was the superior choice.
